Help: Problem putting car on jackstands
I am trying to put my R on jackstands for winter storage. I have a 3.5 ton jack. The max lift is either 21 or 22 inches. I used the rear tow hook to jack it up. Car goes up fine but there isn't enough room for me to fit the stands in. Its about an inch or 2 short of me being able to squeeze them onto the stand points. Am i doing something wrong? my stands are also 3.5 ton. it was whole craftsman set i got.
put the car on pieces of wood to start (like pieces of 2x4") - that will get the 2" you need.
get someone to help you too.

The problem is your using the rear tow hook as your lift point which is higher up.... You dont need to do it from there. I put my car on jackstands and they way I always do it is to jack it from the points on each corner. I put one jack stand on at a time.... its a little trickier but thats the way I and a ton of my buds always do it...
Start from the front left, rear right, rear left, front right.... hope this helps...

Yes, you only put wood under the tires when you can't get the jack under the car (lowered too much).

That only makes your jack taller and harder to get under the car.
Think man!

i put wood blocks on the jack, so the woods is between jack and the jack point. this way you can jack up the car. The wood on the bottom of the jack works but the jack moves.
I put woods under the tires for more clearance if needed.

He's jacking it up with the rear tow hook... plenty o' room... his problem is that his jack sucks and wont lift high enough to put stands under the rear jack points

Have you tried jacking from the rear sub-frame? Don't jack from the tie bar, but on one of the main ends. That's where i jack from when i need more height on my RSX. Good luck.
If you jack up the front end first, you will have a little more clearance for jackstands in the back. That may be enough to give you the 1-2 inches you need.

I have tried this...i had to let it down right away cuz the wood was starting to crack. This was a 2x4 btw.

There's no need to put the car on jackstands for winter storage. The idea of tires "flat spotting" during storage is a myth. They will return to normal shape as soon as you drive down the street.
Just leave your car on the ground.

solution is to buy some jackstands that are a bit shorter. I have the same problem depending on which of my 3 sets of jackstands I try to use.
While using wood on the end of your jack will work, I have had the wood move at times when I was using a jack without enough reach. I never had the wood slip of and now that I think back on it, I was lucky nothing ever disastrous ever happened.
Play it safe and go look for some stands at the local auto parts store that will fit under the space alloted. Better to be safe than sorry.

Exactly. A jack with a 21" lift height should be PLENTY for the rear tow hook. Use some two ton jacks, not those semi truck 3.5 ton ones. (at least, the 3.5 ton ones I've seen are HUGE compared to the 2 ton ones, dunno about sears though, but any normal car jack stands should be fine)
