Default Help with a header

I went and bought a JG Proflow header for my type-r. the shop said it should bolt right in and it doesn't, it's about 4 inches too short. I call JG/Edelbrock and found out that the type-r version is not even out yet. The one I have is for a GSR. What I want to know is if anyone thinks that the type-r version will be any different. The people at JG said that they don't even have any info about the type-r version yet. I compaired the tube size and the JG is a bigger tube, but I wondering if I should go ahead and finish putting it in and just mount a spacer in between the cat and the header or if I should go ahead and wait for the type-r version. I'm thinking that the type-r version will just be a little bit longer but I still want to get some feedback about what I should do.

anything wrong with hytech, spoon, mugen, toda, jdm, etc?

Some headers will give you less power than stock...

JG is a division of Edelbrock, and I think I'm going to go ahead and get one that will fit my car. but can I get some good sugestion, cuz I'm going to call them and have them order it for me so I can just swat the two. I know some people say Comptech, and mugen. I just want one that will pass emissions and isn't too expensive.

man, I hope you're kidding...

I dunno how much you're paying, but you can pass emissions with almost any header - just adjust your a/f ratios and use a cat...

I think hytech headers are even carb approved!

I wouldn't trust that company - it doesn't sound like they even know what they are doing.....

I'd say Edlebrock knows what they are doing. They've been doing a LOT longer than there has been an import scene... But it does seem that they are just trying to cash in a bit by jumping on the bandwagon. That doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing...

Edlebrock recently purchased/merged with JG to get into the import scene.

Right, they have a history but not with imports.

Their understanding of domestic v6's and v8's doesn't necessarily translate into putting power to the ground on import i-4's...

Maybe I should have been more clear in stating that it doesn't make sense that they don't even know if the gsr and itr headers are even remotely similar - when they supposedly manufacture them!

I'd wait for the right header...

Their design of the Type R header may be similar to the GSR header (2 piece 4-2-1 layout) which would be great on the street and a snap to install, so for the TypeR SKU the lower portion of the headers may not be in production yet... The cool thing about this header is that you can swap out the lower portion for their race version which spits out the exhaust gas downwards right at about where the cat would be: and you thought the N1 was loud?

But to comment on the JG/Edelbrock partnership...as with any new partnership there are growing pains, but as soon as they get things sorted out, they ought to be a good partnership since JG has been dealing with imports for ages (as with Edelbrock--not like it matters since engineering/engine building principles really aren't that different between 4 stroke gasoline engines). Also with Edelbrock's production capacity and knowledge, they should be making their stuff at an attractive price.

I admit that I dig on that JDM stuff, but I still keep a very open mind to domestically produced stuff: Crower/Eibach, Crane, SMSP, HyTech, and now JG/Edelbrock...among others...

I paid 599 for it but it's going back to the shop for a refund in about 3 hours.

$600 For a 2.25" collector Header Spend a few more and get a Spoon, or even a JDM 4-1

600 bucks ouch. Since your spending that much go with a SMS header. If you're concerned about emissions passing get a Carsound cat, talk with Dave he has helped out many people in regards to what you need.

Dont buy products from JG there customer service sucks. They've ruined a lot of peoples motors and do not give any refunds after they get your money.

You shouldnt have any problems passing emmisions with any JDM Spec Header as long as you use a cat, I suggest the Car sound.
If Toda SI is willing to give you a good deal go for it, The Mugen piece is pretty nice. Even if it is used you would definately get a better deal than buying it new for $975.
