Default HELP! Engine Overheating problems

Im having a problem with my R overheating. It only happens at the drag strip. Never driving to and from work. I ran one run last night on an 8th mile track, and the needle was at the H. Anybody have any ideas on what it could be? I took it to a local service shop, and they couldnt find anything wrong with the radiator, thermostat, or waterpump, and they did a compression test and they said everything was normal. i didnt see the results of the compression test though. They guy there told me i might want to use a thicker weight oil. I use 10w30.....maybe i should switch to a royal purple racing syn? Anyway, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah...my car is pretty much stock except for a K&N filter and the exhaust section of a 5zigen firball. Thanks!

Forgot to mention that part....Yes the fan does work. Im wondering if the problem couldnt be that the water pump just isnt functioning as it should...maybe its on its last leg. might explain why normal conditions it doesnt over heat, but when at the strip it does. Im going to take it to another mechanic who happens to be a friend of the family. He'll actually take the parts off and check them as opposed to a visual inspection which is what tires plus did. The dealer hear suks. All they ever say, even for little problems, is sorry, we couldnt duplicate the problem. same thing for two years since ive had this car! @ssholes. Oh well...Im just hoping its nothing two serious...although, might give me enough leverage with the wife to rebuild the entire bottom end. worth a try perhaps....anyway, Thanks.

How's your coolant level? Does it drop alot? How many miles do you have on your water pumpo? You shouldn't need to put more than 10w30. Unless you live on mercury or venus.

The coolant level is fine. I actually had the radiator flushed and drained that morning, along with an oil change. The water pump has almost 46K on it. I live in florida where it is hot and humid all year long. But ive been using 10w30 since ive owned the car (6000mi). never had any probs. I dunno. Im just going to take it to another mechanic and have him actually take the water pump off and inspect it. Other than that i dont know what to do. maybe the oil cooler isnt working? who knows. The reciept that the tires plus gave me said that no probs were found and "adv customer not to race vehicle. Not made for racing" Now i know it wasnt made for DRAG racing....but still. thought that was kind of funny.

I don't think its the oil cooler, I have b18c5 ghetto rigged right now with the si coolant pipe, and my oil cooler isn't even hooked up. I suspect the water pump as well, have you checked your spark plugs, they are not running lean, are they?

Sorry do you mean you had the radiator flushed then it started overheating?

If so could be air lock.

you need to make sure that your fans are working. When the car is overheating pop the hood real quick and make sure the fans are on before you shut the car off. try this, start the car and turn on the a/c and check if the fans come on...if they do then next time your car starts to overheat turn on the a/c and see if the temp drops.
