Default HELP! code 72,what do I do?

Could this have come up because I messed with the throttle cable?

My R idles at 750-800rpm on stand still,is this to low. Should it be raised?

It runs fine most of the time, but once in awhile at idle it feels like my R wants to turn off,it starts a little hopping like it's not getting gas,but thats only once in awhile.

Can this be fixed by me or should I take it to the dealer?

If I remember correctly, 72 means cylinder 2 is misfiring.

Ok, there are a lot of reasons why #2 could misfire. First of all, did you misshift? If you did, you might have ben the valves in cylinder #2. If it's not bent valves it could be: bad spark plug, bad fuel injector, or something wrong with some of the cylinder internals (like bent valves, valve spring, retainer, valve guide, etc). If you misshifted, I wouldn't take it to the dealer, because they will rape you on repair. When I misshifted I had 8 bent exhaust valves and the dealer wanted $1,800 for repair. I called up a near-by race shop and they did it for about $750.

However, if you were just driving along, and all the sudden the CEL (check engine light) came on... it'll probably be under warranty.

Striker: I haven't missed shifted recently. I did though, back when I had about 5700 miles on my R and yes I had bent 8 valves and a rod,but I am now at 13500 miles on my R and everything was fine till now.

Only mods are an AEM intake now,I sold the GREDDY EVO I had on it.

The CEL just came on all of a sudden when I was coming home from work the other day while I was sitting at a light.

Anybody have a clue? or should I just take it to the dealer?

Well, since it was that many miles ago, and you don't really have any mods that would void the warranty, I'd be tempted to take it to the dealer. However, if they find out that the problem was caused from misuse they will not cover the diagnostic cost. So the worst thing that happens is you take it to the dealer, they diagnose it, they find out it's your fault, and you have to pay them a hefty diagnostic fee (probably $200-$300). In which case you can tow the car somewhere else (that is of course if the head is off or the car is not really drivable, if it is, just drive) to have it actually fixed. IMO I think it's worth it though to take it to the dealer.

check all your plugs and make sure that any of them havnet loosened. reset your ecu.
do a compression or a leakdown on the 2nd cylinder.
If youcan't find the problem then take it to the dealer.

Well, first of all thanks for the help guys.

I just came in from doing some checks and it seems that I'm only running on 3 cylinders.

I did a "pull a spark plug out 1 at time to see if all the cylinders are working" and ended up with 3/4 giving out juice.

So to the "DEALER" it is....

hopefully covered in full by

I had a misfire last week in my #4 cylinder. My car was basically doing the same thing yours was. It seemed fine while idling and then all the sudden the rpm's would go to about 450-500 rpm's and the car would act like it was going to die just sitting there. I took it to the dealer and they told me it could be one of three things. It could be a bad injector, spark plug, and something with the ECU. Good thing I had my V-AFC taken out the day before.
