If you only plan on Autocross, then get a M2000 Snell rated helmet. But if you are looking into HPDE, track days, etc, then be sure to get a SA2000 rated helmet. The best one is the one that fits your head comfortably yet securely.
If you want a brand, I am using a Bell M3 for HPDEs and it is very comfortable.

I've been using an Arai motorcycle helmet. Fits comfortably and I like the full face instead of the half shel that most of the auto-x helmets are.

just be sure you try on the helmet you are buying. it should fit nice and snug as to provide the very reason you are buying one; safety. i personally liked this one because it was not TOO expensive (~$400), it is closed faced, and has lots of air vents.
good luck w/ your helmet purchase!

Yeah the helmet will break in and loosen up a bit so get one that's real snug if it's brand new.
I use the Bell Mag4, SA2000 rated.
