don't get me wrong...but time to change?
since getting the mugen twin loop cat back exhaust almost a year ago, i've been nothing but happier, the craftsmanship is beautiful and so is the sound, nice and quite in the low range and loud enough in the hi end.
Unfortunately i did not do my homework before purchasing, and recently discovering that it is in-fact a 2 inch diameter before the resonator...
would anyone know for sure, would be great with some evidence that the piping before the resonator is in-fact restricting some power gain?
for example if i run exactly the same itr with exactly the same amount and type of fuel in the tank, a mugen intake, tune with a VAFC2 that if i run different exhaust cat back systems that there will be a power difference?
im on the look out for a new cat back exhaust that is lighter in weight and more power gain but with as less noise as possible...similiar to the mugen would be great! any recondemation? fujitsubo?
or am i just dreaming, that you can't have everything...less noise and power....?
thx for the input

No, you're not dreaming.
That's my cheap Hondata equipped car. Very mild modifications, nothing fancy.
An SMSP header, cat and 2.5" exhaust is an important part of that dyno.
It's not all that noisy, either.
Something I noted in your post is that you said you wanted something "exactly" like the Mugen exhaust. I believe that John in Texas (Hytech) makes an exhaust that's a loop-back like the Mugen.
SMSP (Virginia) has never seen the reason to loop back the exhaust. I can't begin to discuss the flow dynamics and reason why. It just works.

George, how is the sound when driving on the highway ~4K rpms and also when accelerating. Is there a resonance in the cabin? That is the one issue I have with many other systems. I really do not care how loud it is above VTEC, but below I would like it to be civilized enought I could drive around town without attracting attention.

Hytech is here in Southern California. FYI. That is a very nice graph

You know there's an exhaust, but it's quiet enough that you can talk to someone, and it's quiet enough that local law enforcement don't give it a second thought.
An added benefit is that from outside the car it looks entirely stock.

We seem to know a lot of the same people, but I don't think I recognise your screen name.

yeah when i first got mine i looked at the b-pipe of tiwnloop and i thought it's pretty small so i swaped it out with T1R b-pipe.
here's my orginal post while back.
hope this will help

That's because they use the metric system. 2.36" = 60 mm. 2.5" = 63.5 mm.
BTW. JDM collector = 65 mm OD, not 2.5".

Re: don't get me wrong...but time to change? (ITSUKA)
thx alot for the useful information guys
just one more thing would you guys reconmend to keep the twin loop and change the b-pipe or go for a rmo1a? is the fujitsubo much louder
also does the rmo1a run through the same exhaust path as the stock and mugen or does it run under the fuel tank?i really couldn't seem to find a picture or information in regards to this
thx again

Re: don't get me wrong...but time to change? (ITSUKA)
would it be wise to cut out and replace the piping before the resonator to a 60.5mm stainless steel?
would that fix the problem except for the weight side of things?

also you guys use your r's for track right?
so the 2'inch is cartainly a problem, but if im only street at the moment would the 2' be a benift due to the idea that it may provide a bit more low end torque?

A lot depends on the tuning, but you're generally going to have to go bigger than 2.5" before you lose torque because of a lack of backpressure on the exhaust valves.
Buy what you want to buy, but don't shy away from a 2.5" system because of torque.

Re: don't get me wrong...but time to change? (ITSUKA)
When i had my twinloop i always wanted to fix the big bottleneck where the cat meets the b-pipe. I'd suggest replacing the 2" flange with a 60mm one, and check the diameter of the piping before the first resonator. After the first resonator the piping on the twinloop is a full 60mm all the way back, with no bottlenecks after that. If I were to buy a catback all over again tho, i would have gone with the Fujitsubo RM-01A, which seems to be one of the lightest, best power gains and decent sound levels. Too bad when i wanted one at the time, it was backordered for many months.
