compression test result. HELP.
HELP!! 2001 ITR. stock. i check it today at home it read... 170, 169, 170, 165. is that right? seems low. does the engine have to be hot before doing it? becuz i did it when it was warm/hot. Attitude here is 4500 ft above sea level i belive, does that affect it? i just bought the car to acura for some valve adjustment too (a month ago). what wrong?? and the compression tester size is 14mm right? ........ edit... sorry forgot to put the gas petal to the metal. just rechecked it.. now reading 180,180,180,175. does that look better? one other question is MY car is only as fast as my brothers gsr stock. whats going on??? i used to spank him at least 6 car length., now were like dead even. been slow ever since i got
it back from acura for compression problem and had a valve adjustment done. something wrong? but isnt higher compression psi the faster your car would be? just lost plz help..

180,180,180,175 That seems just fine.
Maybe your brother's car has a NOS system under the passenger?!?
the reason you car feels slow could be due to many many things, start with the normal items in a tune up and then go from there.

As far as compression tests are concerned, I believe everything is fine so long as there is not more than a 15 psi variance from cylinder to cylinder.
High compression could equate from carbon build up on the pistons. I can't explain the 6 car length difference...are you using different fuel these days. Possibly even wear and tear on the car.

we both run on 91octane. I always change my oil every 3000 miles too. Just got a valve job done by acura. Does a correct valve adjustment make that big of a difference in speed/power? Spark plug looks good. What else can i do to check if any other thing is wrong with my car? The car just seems really slow after i got it back from acura. It was at acura because something was wrong with compression on one of the cylinder. Because before that i can pull my bro GSR about 6 car length, now everytime were both dead even (only 2 month in between)... any idea? makes me feel why not just get a GSR. and yeah i checked he have no NOS.
all the other ITR on honda tech reads about 220-230 across. maybe acura install GSR piston? hope not. i only have 30k miles on the engine and it's reading only 180. i still have warranty, can i do something about this?

The readings look fine (no noticeable variation from piston to piston), but they seem low.. I don't recall any ITR reading less than 200's in OEM form. Check this ..
1) Pull the Fuel Injection fuse out before testing.
2) Pull ALL the spark plugs when testing not just the piston you are checking.
3) Floor the gas pedal when cranking for a reading.
4) Test when the engine is at full operating temperature.
5) On a personal note: I found that it is more reliable to crank until the gauge stops climbing. Some people crank a predetermined number of times and use that reading which may lead to low numbers... I suggest you crank until the needle stops climbing.
Why do you say you my have GS-R pistons ?? Did you have the engine rebuilt or are you saying it could be a factory goof-up ??

i took it into acura that one time becuz my car was burning up 1.5 quart every 3000 miles. i just got the car back like 2 month ago. i dont know what acura did to my car, thats y i said they might put gsr piston in it. the car was in the shop for a month. dont know if it's losing any more oil until i change my oil. i did exactly what u said of how to do the compression test. doesnt it mean that i have a leak on all 4 cylinder OR gsr piston in it? because man i think it's too low. thats what i think why my car isnt running fast. what else can i do? should i bring it to acura and have them check the compression and tell them what's it's supposed to be at?

Didn't you get a receipt of what was done to the car...

yeah i did but all it said was nothing but small parts. and those parts doesnt take a month to be put in. i know they did something else to it because they gave me new valve because some of them were bent and that wasn't even on the reciept.

How do you know? Why were your valves bent? Over-revved? Have you over-reved recently?

Hmm... this is weird .. I don't see the dealer putting in a new set of pistons and not stating it anywhere .. not likely in my opinion ..
I also have to say I've never seen a dealership give away free valves .. If anything, they would immediately claim you over-revved and busted the valves so as to have you pay for the repairs ..
As for the month-long wait .. I've been there .. 3 and a half weeks to get an O2 sensor replaced
hehe !!
I dunno what to tell you ... too many issues here .. BTW, why don't you try using another compression gauge ?? Maybe yours is reading low ..

the most i have rev it is to 8500 thats it. thats when the valves were bent. and yeah the dealer give me new valve as told. i don't think the gauge is wrong because on my brother gsr he read 175 all across. the gauge i just bought too. maybe i will buy a new one. and i dont know where the valves where bent..
