Default Clutch Problem

I've recently developed a ton of freeplay in the clutch, and it engages near the floor instead of at the top like it used to. the fluid is still topped off, and I don't see any signs of leakage....where should I start checking for the problem?

did you check to see if it is leaking inside the firewall where the boot for the clutch master cylider is? I've seen plenty of brake ms leak inside the engine bay, but most clutch ms's I've seen leak inside the car on the firewall.

Otherwise, you can adjust the clutch pedal engagement by taking the pin and bolt out of the rod that goes into the cylinder. Thread it one turn away from the firewall and put it back on. This should make the pedal engage further away from the floor. I'd search for more detailed info. I'm sure someone has done a writeup with pics.

yeah I checked the firewall first because the master cylinder went out on my old eclipse, and that was the first sign. its all dry back there, and the fluid is still on top....I'll try to adjust the engagement point tomarrow, maybe I jacked it up w/ the autolock, by being a little too rough.

I've blead the clutch, and adjusted it, the clutch feels worse than ever, now no matter how I adjust it, there is 0 freeplay, and the pedal shoots back from the floor with a vengance. Its like there is too much pressure. also it's now engageing at the very very top....complete extreme opposite of where it was when the problem started. it feels like total ***, and is a pain to drive.

i hate my car, someone come steal it!

Try rebleeding it again, and if that does not help I say the springs failed on the clutch

But I could be wrong

Have a experienced person drive your car, such as a LeeMiles shop- I bet they would know without going more then 2 feet.

I spent another hour messing with the pedal adjustment, I actually got it down to an acceptable firmness, and got a little bit of play back in it. I'm gonna give it some time. If it does not change, I can deal with it...at least till it gets warm enough to pull the tranny. I did however as a by product of all this madness find that my throw out bearing is in the initial stages of death.
thanks for the suggestions everyone.

good times!

That happened to me, and half a month later a spring popped out of the disc. (1 1/2 month old clutch)
