Yup, not a problem.
An ITR has stronger valve springs than a GSR and lighter intake valves to help deal with the higher revs.
When I ran a Mugen ECU a couple years ago it would rev to about 9.5K on the tach w/o any problem.
Just make sure you adjust your valves every 15K miles or so.
I just don't like bouncing or riding the limiter, but hitting it now and then is normal.

It's safe to bang off the rev limiter. No, t's not recommended, but revving up there is fine. The tach reads high, so im sure you are not at an actual 8700/8800. My rev limiter, stock ecu, *looks* like 9000, but its not obviously. As the revs increase on the tach, the % error is more apparent.
Any B series revving up there is going to take on more wear and tear than usual, but that's expected.
