Any downsides by making my gsr block 84mm??
Hey guys, after my most recent dyno, the car is tuned pretty well but the horsepower just isn't enough. I want something in the 215whp range and 140+ torque range, so I have decided that I want to go bigger. Since I already have a gsr block, I figure there is no reason to get a crv block, especially since there arent many machine shops around that I would trust to fix the head and block for the head to fit the crv block. Thus, I am thinking I will just get my gsr block bored and resleeved by golden eagle to 84mm. I also plan on running some Jun 3's this summer as well. I guess my question is what are the downsides(if any) to boring and resleeving my block(other than the cost)? As far as headgaskets go, would I just have to get the 84mm cometic?? Thanks a lot for the help..

...down side would be lack of traction due to torque yes on the head gasket... don't forget to have the head opened up to the 84mm bore also... not expensive, but worth it...

Hey man,
Still not satisfied with your cars performance? How did the car feel after the dyno tuning session? It gained quite a bit of midrange last time. Sounds like you got some BA plans for your car though man. Good luck.

open up head to 84mm= less compression.
Also, I think if you don't open the head up; it can leave a nice sharp edge for detonation to build off. Honda doesn't do it on the B20 because it runs such low compression.. but I think at the levels we run our motors, the fewer amount of potential hot spots, the better.

i'll have to take a quick photo of my gasket on the head. i'd really like to know what compression i'm truely running. 13.1:1 rollerwaves(84.5mm) with cloverleafed 81mm combustion chamber. so there is actually even less volume of space then your norm

yeah 203...the tuning session helps and it runs really good....its just not enough power. I need more....we all know how that is..
As far as opening my head up, its a better idea to help prevent detonation? If it reduces the compression, should I go with higher compression pistons than I thought of?? I was going to go 12.0:1 RW, should I go higher now? This is on pump gas and a VAFC mind you...thanks again

What is a ballpark figure to get a block sleeved. I am also thinking of goin 84.5mm for my rebuild, and im looking at the price range, and how much power i will gain.

i got something around $250 a cylinder, and thats just for the sleeving, not removal of motor and what not. from a engine builder in town, top quality.

I am pretty sure GE charges around 750 to resleeve and another 125 or 150 to bore/hone your block to your piston spec.

Oh yeah...one last thing I forgot to mention, my block is already decked because the machinist did it(after specifically telling him not to ) Will that make a difference??

But that's where pistons make up for the difference.
