Default Alignment Specs

First off, I've searched and have not found my answer.

I took my car in to my local Acura dealership for an alignment. My instructions to them were Zero Toe (rear) and 1/8" Toe Out in front. The alignment guy proceeded to ask if that was 1/8" PAST spec, and told me his machine gives him a range of 0 to 5. (0 to 5.... I could not extract what that meant from him) I told him I wanted 1/8" total toe out, meaning the front of the wheel would be 1/8" farther out than the back of the wheel. I just don't feel very confident that him and I were on the same page. I thought I was being very clear, but I doubt I'll get back what I asked for and want to call to clarify. Can anyone help me with what he's talking about, or what 'alignment lingo' I should use?

just make sure you tell him 1/16" EACH side , that should be max factory spec and will give you a very nice alignment

its the setting of choice for most of us like George said

Thanks guys.
I just called and spoke to the head service guy and told him to set it at 1/8" TOTAL toe out in front.

I've had the 1/8 out (front), zero (rear) on stock sus. Now that I've gone to zeal sus and soon the mugen 26mm rear sway, should I still go w/ the same settings?

These guys get paid to do this. Whatever this alignment is costing me, they'd better be able to figure out degrees for 1/8" toe out. If not... I'm paying them for nothing.

Alignment is about the only thing I trust the dealership to do, anyways....

I'd think you'd want to adjust camber, but maybe not change those toe settings. Not sure, though....

Now I just hope my poor old 195/50 S-03's hold out all day at Gingerman sunday, since that's all the tires I got right now!!

Wow! I just spoke to the service department (since I had to go to work and couldn't wait for the car). A few pages of printout from the alignment; caster, camber, toe settings, etc. Very nice. I guess when I called back and said TOTAL toe, he knew what I meant.

It's customer appreciation week (2 weeks) there right now, so I guess this is the only time all year that anyone is really happy with their service. The other 50 weeks they tell you half truths or don't bother to find out the answers at all!

One other question: how is tire wear with zero toe (rear) and 1/8" total toe out (front)? Obviously I'm talking about under daily driven conditions....

Tire wear is even and not much of a problem.

Just to the dealership where I got the car. (Acura of Libertyville) I think it was 59.99, but normally is 79. I don't take it to them for much, but they've done a good job in the past, and I was in a hurry to get it done before sunday, and my alignment was very bad....
