Re: 3rd gear grinding probs guies (209typer)
been covered before, it's either
the transmission fluid needs changing or
the synchro has gone (tho it's more 4th to 5th that goes)
I may be corrected soon, but that my guess
BTW it vtecin (vtech make phones )

is this problem inevatable, when doing autocross's and driving events occasionally?
Isnt there a way to slow the process of this happening or even stop it... besides not having fun with the car.

Re: 3rd gear grinding probs guies (ebelp)
As a first step you can try Penzoil Synchromesh. It's the same as the non-Friction modified GM fluid and is about $5 a quart cheaper and much easier to find. Not quite as good at hiding the synchro problems as the Friction Modified, but a good first step. Really helped my brother's EF Si out.

Couldnt have put it better myself.
You need to get the synchros replaced.
Happened in my old 99 Si, there was a service bulletin for it, brought it into the local Honda Dealership and after some fighting with them I got them to replace it under warranty.
Good luck.

Autocross is pretty easy on the sychros unless you're trying to shift into 1st from a roll. I don't think the occasional HPDE will cause much excessive wear either.

The only grinding I get was due to driver error. But I only have 25k on the caR.

Re: 3rd gear grinding probs guies (RiCE On IcE 2)
2-3 is a problem on b-series
4-5 is a problem on h-series
I'm not sure what it is, but it's a bad track record. Add that into the world of Auto 5-spd trouble w/the TL/Accord series, and you have a bit of a mess.

Re: (DAsix)
sorry if i hijack this thread a lil bit
when i change gears on my itr since a couple of months ago, it doesnt feel smooth, but no grind or anything like that, it just feel rough
have already changed the gearbox oil, no help
so im suspecting the clutch, i have no idea if its the clutch or not tho, because the car has done 130,000km which probably still on stock clutch
and the clutch feels sticky and grip pretty high too
help a brother out

I beat the living crap out of my car, no transmission issues. I'm not drag racing (often), and I'm not the fastest shifter in the world.
I would vote that it's not inevitable.
