Default "thunking" sound when turning steering wheel to the right?

Unmodified type R.

Seems like on occassion, while the car is not moving, or going very slowly, if I turn the wheel to the right (somewhat quickly perhaps), i get a "thunk" sound coming from, I believe, near the LEFT wheel or somewhere along the steering system/axle.

Does not happen at higher speeds, where turning is less dramatic.

The car took a hit on the RIGHT wheel in an accident recently, which has since been (suposedly) fully repaired.

Any thoughts? I plan to get on the track in the very near future with this car - do I need to be concerned?

Thanks.

maybee your axle got damaged in the wreck... axles make noise when turning full lock if they are bad, or..

I have a supra that does that, and it is a bad inner tie rod on the right side.. the clunk is pretty loud on my supra

my car does the same thing and was also hit and suspensioin replaced, took it to the dealer 3 times and they coulnt find anything wrong, i replaced the axle but it still does it, sounds like a joint shifting. if you find out what it is please let me know.

MattL -- yours does the same thing? turning the wheel in the same direction? Do you notice any difference in the drive? Has it been getting worse over time?

actually it does it when i turn left and it does it twice, once entering the turn and once exiting the turn. It used to be much worse, after my axident there was a strange poping noise that would happen all the time going down the road, i took it to the dealer three times and finally on the third time it stopped doing it and they didnt know what they fixed cause they went over everything, I think it was related to the steering rack, for it would do it when playing with the wheel, Unfortunatedly this is what happens after an axident, my car does not drive nearly the same, more body roll and all these damn noises. If i were you i'd go to the place that fixed it and have them look at it, they give you a year warranty on labot (ussualy). let me know what they find, sometimes the ball joints go bad and give a littel play in some of the arms and can make that noise, you can raise your car and start pulling on stuff and see if it has any give, and while under there tighten everything up.

I'm going back in 2wks to have them look it over before getting on the track. Does anyone know if any of the problems identified above could cause me a dangerous situation out on the track?
