Your thoughts on internally exploding TB's

See that missing chunk? It just blew off outta nowhere...Flew into the engine, collided with a valve, broke the retainer on that valve, then dropped the valve

we do it big
...It just exploded outta nowhere really...no nitrous..

Something tells me the throttle body plate didnt "explode" but rather something else went wrong. Its virtually impossible for the throttle body plate to do that and its more likely that something flew up the IM and hit it when the engine blew up and then got sucked back down in the IM.
no...thats not what happened...Look at where the hole is..something flying up in the manifold wouldnt hit that spot first and ONLY, in fact where that hole is that means the piece would need to come straight up the IM then angle itself downwards with the same force it left the engine, and like I said there are no other cracks or holes, so that destroys the idea of richochet...thats a crater blown from underneath...nothing is going to make it through that manifold unobstructed that far to have enough force to create that hole...a crack maybe...but not a crater..And by that logic whatver hit it would still have been in the TB or manifold...Because your logic says the engine failed FIRST then shot something back...and upon failure the engine shut off
and its not the throttle body PLATE youre looking at...the butterfly was undamaged

Is your car turbo'd?
I have heard stories of cars running alot of boost without a blow off valve (or some form of pressure relief, recirculation etc) and the throttle plate gets sucked into the intake manifold or bent from all the pressure

Its very likely something could have ignited in there to do it...But I cant think of what...and nope the car is all motor

Oh sorry, your picture is kinda struggling on clarity and I thought the lower half of the butterfly was missing in action. I believe what you are talking about (off your description and what i can see of a "chunk" missing in you throttle body) is actually a stock casting mark. Notice mine is uber dirty and if the throttle body was attached it appears to be in about the right spot. Maybe its not, but it looks similar from what I can see.
I see the casting mark youre talking about...but this is much larger...downsize my image and youll see this crater sticks out entirely too much to be there on purpose and it isnt symmetrical in any way shape or form..Its not on my spare TB I have with me
