Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
have an exedy 2 myself. it's decent but chatters more than i would like due to the 3 puc nature. also clunks from time to time
the next clutch i buy is going to be this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ACT-SPRUNG-6...ht_2012wt_1139
if you have a clean pressure plate a lot of guys have had success just installing this as a disc.
by nature 6 puc's chatter less than 3's but also are more grabby due to more friction material being there.

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
My buddy has had one going on 4 years this year believe it or not, he used to beat on it but not much any more (was boosted single). Only complaint is that that thing chatters more than my girl.
when we actually got it we picked it up in the back of an alley in the middle of LA in just some plain brown box.

this is the clutch i was lookin at it looks like the pressure plate fingers have been heat teated but who knows, interesting read above though. we dont have to worry about springs poppin out cuz im goin with unsprung, as long as the pressure plate does its job everything should be ok unless the friction material blows apart of course. this clutch can also come with the 8.8 lb flywheel as a complete package for 259! thats ridiculously cheap. if i do decide to try this clutch out believe you me i will be doing a full write up whether it fails or not. and i pull it in the winter (if it survives) and take pics of all wear or any cracking. for 259 ill take one for the team lol.

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
I have about 4500mi on an XTD stage 3. Boosted b18b setup with only about 220hp. Used mostly for autocross, and just a little drag racing.
The main thing I notice is that the engagement point is pretty high (with pedal almost all the way out, despite pedal adjustment, etc.). But at least it DOES grab.
If you closely inspect photos you will see that the XTD stage 3 disc is identical to a Competition Clutch stage 4 disc. I am 100% convinced they are identical, manufactured in the same plant.
The issue is the pressure plate. They say it is just a stock pressure plate with a fresh coat of spraypaint, and I believe it.
The engine will most likely be coming out of my car within the next week or 2. I have an ACT Xtreme PP (used, but appears to be in good shape) that I am probably gonna swap in for the XTD PP at that time.
If you are dead set on going with an XTD pressure plate, I would go with the one that claims to have 2300lbs of clamping force, not the one that claims 1700.

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
im gonna go with the stage 4 unsprung and it does say 2300 lbs of force in the pic the fingers on the pp look to be heat treated as opposed to the stage 3. we'll see im givem a try and see what happens if i have to go with a name brand pp it still will be a considerable savings if the disk will hold up.

their pressure plate, or the extreme one is probably the plate you would be looking at IF the XTD fails.
wouldn't cost you that much more to just go ACT in the first place

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
the name brand favoritism on this site absolutely kills me. anyways i had an xtd stage 3 on my b16 ef and it was great. put about 35k on it before i sold the car. not a single complaint. another thing about clutches in general is you have to look at the person installing it. an excellent part WILL FAIL in a matter of second due to user error. TRUST.

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
i install everything myself i havent had my car at a mechanic for anything other than a safety, alignment or tire change since i was 18. i went to school to be a mechanic but never finished my apprenticeship, i have worked in chassis/hot rod shops and owned my own body shop and built some pretty impressive rides, my expertise definatley lies in custom fab and chassis building but i definatley know my way around all areas of automotive. i will put an xtd in my car and do a full write up whether it fails or not i have alot of races planned this summer so its gonna see a **** load of abuse.

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
my flywheels pretty beat up plus i want a lighter one. and when i price the acl or competition clutches im lookin at 6 plus for the same basic setup. are u saying its 100 more for the acl pp and disc and just to reuse my flywheel. so $489

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
re using your flywheel is pretty dumb. unless you have is resurfaced which is then more money out of pocket and the dreaded increase in down time...time is money.

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
if you did get a flywheel the cost does go up though. cheapest decent flywheel is the fidanza and it's 170 and for that you might as well get the reusable exedy steel wheel for 200

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
If your interested i found a slightly used act pressure plate and 6 puck in my garage the other day...im pretty sure its my roommates from 10 years ago but he never claimed it and had a 99 jdm gsr in his 92 hatchback, so im assuming its an integra..not 100% positive but thats the only car he owned while he lived with me

Re: XTD clutch reviews good or bad.
I'm actually looking at getting the XTD 6 puck rigid for my built and boosted D. Was gonna get the sprung clutch until I read this thread and don't want to pull the tranny b/c the springs fell out.
