Default Wow what a difference!!!

My brother has a 2000 Civic EX. I just installed the AEM CAI he bought for his car and all I can say is WOW!!! I never believed that the intake would give the car such a great sound, especially at WOT, and when VTEC kicks in.

My question is, If I was to get the AEM CAI for my car, a 2001 Integra GS-R, would it sound just as good, or better? My car is stock, so this would be the first engine mod that I am looking into. Has anyone ever compared the AEM CAI sound on a Civic to an Integra?

no. the civic intake manifold design makes it louder than the GS-R. Although it does sound nice in both. The power increase you feel is in your head (due to the fact that you hear it now)

Search the forums...there was a topic on just that recently...

it might not be as loud as the civic, but i would have to say its a dramatic change from stock to just a cold air intake, actually my short ram (injen) was louder than when i bought the extension for it. and u can actually hear VTEC and secondary runners kick in very clearly after gettin the intake.

Default Oh well...

I know there is just about no noticable power gain. I was just saying that the sound is just so much better now. Very throaty and deep.

On the other hand, I am kind of disappointed now. I don't know if I want to spend the money now to put on an AEM CAI on my car if I won't get the same difference from my stock intake. I guess I might as well stay stock, right?

you will get a performance difference, just not as much as a sound difference.

You choose whats more important to YOU.

Performance difference? I thought that you lose like 2-5 ft. lbs. of torque when you install an AEM CAI, but gain like 2-3 hp (upper level of rpm though), right? I was hoping for a sound change as well.

Draw your own power conclusions... But the shorter the colder the better! (for all around power)

Don't buy an intake just for the sound!

If you want a truly top notch intake, get a Comptech Icebox. However you might not like it since it isn't super loud.

Get the AEM intake for your car, you're going to love the way VTEC sounds. You can't really hear it when the car is stock, but wait until you hear it after your intake is installed.

LOL! bullpoo poo in your head. I have a 96 gsr and with my bullpoo poo shortram intake my friends 2000s si with header and Aem coldair would pull on my slightly and when i switched to the cold air I was dead even with him, in roll ons and off lights. So its not in your head its proven if not by me then by dyno results.

Buy the Intake....it's worth it. It does help you get some more power.... when I ran my car at the track stock and then when I bought the AEM CAI I saw a difference. It sounds so much meaner then it did stock. I also have a 2001 GS-R. Go and but it and when you get more cash buy bigger cams. I put a type-r intake cam in mine. You can feel and hear a difference there too.

The AEM on a 2001 GSR is good for about 7 to 12 hp to the wheels and no loss in tq.

I wish that were true. But I have seen too many dyno charts that say otherwise.

Why waste money on that when you can make your own using the stock airbox and a K&N filter? Best part is it looks 100% stock (which ain't too shabby, cops won't give you a hard time, either).

I've got a AEM CAI for a GSR if you'd like to purchase for a discounted price. The piping is 2.75 in and it has a filter but it is not brand new. The filter has been cleaned though. I'm asking $135 shipped anywhere.

AEM CAI is worth the cash... Just make sure you open up the exhaust with some DC JDM 4 - 1 headers and a good catback exhaust... do those 3 and your 2001 will love you...

Uuuuuh, First off...the AEM CAI is going to help you. PERIOD. The ONLY downside would be hydrolock, which depending on your weather conditions might not even matter. Bypass valve fixes this problem supposedly.

Now, back to your GSR loosing to a civic si w/CAI.... I've got an LS, and i SPANK Si's with i/h/e to about 100 MPH from a dead stop.... I'm lost as to why the larger displacement B18C1 would loose to a slightly modded b16.

dyno it in the winter u'll see 15hp!

get the AEM dude. Its the best cold air intake in the market.
Or you can get an ICEMAN which some others would say is better
cause its made of plastic.

Default Hard to believe...

Chris states: ...The power increase you feel is in your head (due to the fact that you hear it now)...
But you guys are telling me that I will see a 5-10hp increase?!?! Is that possible? In other words, my car came stock with 170hp (roughly), and just by adding a AEM CAI (a tube with an air filter on the end of it), will give me 180hp? I have seen dyno charts where Integras might get 10hp, but the car had other power modifications done to it before the intake. So it is not really justifiable to say that by adding a AEM CAI will increase a stock b18c1's horsepower by 10hp, right?

I know you guys say that if you increase the intake capacity, you have to increase exhaust flow to really see any nice gains. The main reason I don't put a header and exhaust system on is because of legality. I have had a tough time before trying to get certain cars to pass smog here in California. I know I don't have to worry about that too soon with my new car. But I still don't know too much about this subject of intake and exhausts. So what are you recommendations on a street legal header and exhaust combo if I was to get an AEM CAI. Am I going to see 15-20 more horsepower over stock if I go with a I/H/E!?!?! I find that had to believe.

Guidelines would be:
1. Smog/legality (priority since I live in California)
2. Good amount of HP increase
3. Sound quality
4. Ease of install
5. Money is no object

Thanks for your help. (By the way, please don't hate/flame me...I am still just a newbie when it comes to this stuff!!! )
