Default whine when engine is cold, please help

Recently when I turn the car on in the mornings the car makes an annoying whining sound that I have not been able to pin-point. It increases as you rev the car. Goes away as engine warms up.
Anyone had this problem? What was the cause and how to fix? Thanks.

I have a 98ls w/58K. When it is <15 degrees F and my car has sat all day outside in the wind (at school) I hear it when I start the car- for about 2 minutes. I figure it is tight bearings (water pump maybe) because the metal has shrunk due to the cold.
It also increases with revving, but I let the sucker warm up for like 2 minutes while I clean the junk off the windows.
No problems, it goes away here. HTH

Make sure your power steering pump has enough fluid in it.

Put the clutch in... does it go away?

If so, then you need a new throw out bearing.

mine sounds like a supercharger (or turbo at times) as well...but just about all the time if the throttle position is correct....I think it is my CAI, cuz i only have that and exhaust.

I think I know this one. If you have a bad/weak ground in your stereo, you'll get a high pitched whine that comes through your speakers. The whine should go away if you turn your stereo off. Try that...I guarantee that's what it is.
