this morning, my check engine light went on and i noticed soemthing funny. after starting up my car, i see the rev meter constantly go from 300 rpm to 800 rpm back to 300 rpm to 800 rpm and so on. it's like if im constantly reving the car and letting go, then rev again. weird. i tried driving it, but it studders. anyone know what's wrong? im in class rite now and worrying like hell bout it =/

 

sounds like a distributor or a fuel problem. that could be anything from clogged injectors, bad fuel filter, water in tank. if the dist. is going bad, it may be in need of a cap & rotor change. basically sounds like your car is in need of a tune-up if that hasn't already been done. whats the mileage and age of your teg?

 

i got a 96 integ with 75,000 miles. i just drove back from class. it was horrible. first gear doesnt even move. i have to gas it half way down just to get it to pass 3, but then sometimes, after gasing, it just jumps like crazy and other times it doesnt even move. on 5th gear i cant get it pass 65 mph. and when im at 65mph, im pretty much close to flooring it. the temperature is good, the engine sounds good, but damn it bogs like crazy. i hope it's not because of a cylinder shutting down or something. imma go for a tune up now. more money car, less money for school ... i'll let u guys know what's up in a bit latz.

What code/s is it throwing?

 

have it scanned and that should tell you wat is wrong..

 

It sounds like a fuel problem to me. Try replacing the fuel filter. Good luck

 

o2 sensor possibly

 

k i left my car at my uncle's shop so he can check it out tomorrow. if the distributor is bad, that's OK. just as long as nothing's wrong with the internals, that's a bitch to fix.

 

Loose spark plugs could cause a problem like that, it happend to me. All you got to do is make sure its tight.

 

Whenever the CEL comes you should check what code the ECU is throwing out, this will tell you what is wrong and will save time, money, and anguish.

 

ok i got it tuned up and i found the problem!! when i took the spark plug out, one of it was soaked with oil (hmmm, kinda odd, i htough to myself). it turned out, the valve gasket was old and therefore leaking oil into one of the sparkplug and so the sparkplug couldnt create a spark. and when it did create a spark, my engine would studder from the power of another cylinder instead of 3 cylinder working. i took the valve cover out, replaced the valve gasket, changed the spark plug, and now my car runs like new !!
