What is the use for this!?
I just changed my oil pan gasket. After all that work I thought that everything was a piece of cake to put back on but I couldnt fit the one huge bolt (17mm or 18mm) that helps hold on the metal flywheel cover. Its the bolt closest to the front of the car. I tried putting it on and basically the bolt just goes in straight after two rotations but then it goes upward all stupid about it. I was told that it may need to be re-threaded.
Well anyways since I needed the car to drive to and from work. I just left that bolt off along with the black bracket that the bolt needs to pass through first which i guess provides extra support to hold the flywheel cover in place. Just wanted to know how important is that bracket thing? Does it have any purpose other than holding it in place? The flywheel cover is held on tight for now because the other main bolt is holding it in place and so is this other screw on the top left of the cover.
