What to do.....
Hey people, how goes? heard nothing but great things about this forum. But ya i have a problem. I picked up a 2000 gsr and its buring oil. When i first got it about a month ago, it would burn a tiny bit of oil when you first started it, no biggie for the price i got it for. The guy i got it from bought it from a dealer auction, had the valve stem seals, cam seals, head gasket all replaced because it burned oil when you first started it. now it is really progressing. Now when its cold and i start it theres a nice big, like pretty much as big as the car cloud of oil come out after a couple seconds of being started and burns oil for a bit till its warmed up, then after its warm, theres still a cloud when goin hard. When i rev it up to around 6-8k rpm you can smell it burniing. So today i pulled the plugs. 1,2,3 were all nice and tan, but 4(the cylinder closest to the disrtibutor) was lighter and had ashes on it. So i took them to the wire wheel, cleaned em, put them back in and started it up. I did a couple revs(engine was 2/3 operating temp.) and shut it off. I pulled the plugs again and 1,2,3 were nice but 4 was covered in oil! like seriously there was oil almost dripping from it. So i was thinkin oil seals, but now i suspect just the one cylinder burning oil? So couls i just replace the rings on that one piston? Btw im on a really tight budget... But thanx for the help!
Ya, but i heard that if the rings are leaking then that means theres oil on the cylinder walls which means a better seal which means the reading will be off doesnt it? lol But ya, a ring set per piston is 80-100 bucks (cdn) and if im replacing them all im just gonna get new cp pistons since they come with rings and will only be a lil bit more money. I just hope its only the one cylinder. What other ways can i check if the other cylinder are burning oil? I have a aftermarket header, gready i think, came with the car. If i took it off there should be oil residue on the inside walls of the cylinders burning oil eh? Ill do a compression test soon and take pics of the plugs and see what you experts think lol.
IF your on a budget and I will swear by it but some say its useless iot go buy a can of
Restore Engine Lubricant. Its in like a silve can and add it straight to your oil.
IT works and will run alot smoother and severly reduce your engine problem unless its too far gone. Your only losing 5 bucks
