There's a ton you can do. Depends on what the car is going to be used for and what you can live without.

I run a racecar that has reasonable weight recution measures, including lexan windows, gutted doors, no interior, heater, bumper beams, headlights and all unused wiring in the car is removed. Sound deadening and undercoating removed. It is NOT street legal and never will be. Saved several hundred pounds.

For the street, there are knee bolsters under the dash....steel plate backings under the covers, bumper beams, associated brackets replaced by tie wraps, radio and speakers and associated wiring.

For the most part, carbon fibre hoods for the street are as heavy as a steel one or heavier. I've measured ones for my CRX and they're quite a bit heavier than my steel one with the latch and internal bracing removed.

no **** i dident kno a lot of this stuff, But yea what knee bolsters under the dash are you tlaking about and the steel plate backing, and witch bumper beams. And with removing stuff like this how much weight do you think it will take off? and how much does a stock gsr weight like 2600?

There's a ton of stuff that you can remove if you only knew it was there to begin with. I own a CRX racecar that's been stripped to 1600 pounds, and am buying cars to get a swap for cheap by selling off the parts. The knee bolsters I found were in a DA but I expect the DC's probably still carried them through. One was behind the panel below the steering wheel and the other on the pass side behind another plastic panel. Bumper beams are the actual steel structures that take the hit if someone hits you hard enough to push past the bumper cover and styrofoam that's under it. I'd say each bumper beam is maybe 8 pounds. Then you can continue to bumper supports and their mounts and bolts. Maybe another 5 pounds per end of the car. The bumper will still stay in place without it but you might have to make a bracket for the rear.

With any of these removals, you've got to decide for yourself if you want to give up whatever structure they provide. You would need to do a bunch of searching around your car and decide what you're willing to take out and what needs to stay in place.

In a racecar, it's a given that you want everything out that you can possibly get out. Spending 25-30 hours removing unwanted wiring in the car is a given. Finding all of the extra tabs and brackets in the car and cutting them off is a given. Spending 20 hours removing undercoating and another 20 removing sound deadening is a given.

If you want to be less radical, as an example, I removed 150 pounds from a Subaru 2.5RS (GC8) when I was running my street car on the track. This was all in simple stuff that was not needed for the car to go fast. Scoop and block off plate, vent block off plates, wing, brake backing plates, the subaru had 2 bricks....one inside the glove box door and one on the engine/tranny bracket. It takes a bunch of snooping and 3 ounces here, a half pound there. There's no 100 pound big thing to get rid of, unfortunately.....at least that I know of.

The Fox Mustang guys have it easy, to some extent. There's a huge....like 15-20 pound steel piece on the rear end. It's there to get rid of harmonic noises at certain speeds. I've never found anything that huge on any other car.
