Subtle weight reduction
Heres the deal, my parents wont let me take out my back seat, or gut the interior (the title is still under my dads name) so what are some ways I can drop some weight that isnt very noticable??
Also, how much louder would my car be if i took out the sound deadener in the trunk only?? and would it be worth it, because I figure every pound counts, and if there are 20 pounds of tar total, then almost half of it would be in the trunk
BTW: it is a 97 ex coupe

Spare tire.
Tar under car. and in trunk.
Carbon fiber/Fiberglass hood.
Light weight exhaust.
Rims!!! If you have the stock ones they are 18 lbs each.

Well, without the seats, it's noticable. Not too much but it is.
Your best bet is to go with rims.....getting a set of 14 lb rims cuts back 4 lbs per corner and also gets that weight off of the front tires.....kinda like getting a lighter flywheel......although not as fun.
The tar in the trunk only will weigh around 6 lbs. Not too much weight there. You may also look for a smaller gas tank.....although that can bug if you have long drives.

Re: Subtle weight reduction (Briman2021)
I just did the sound deadening removale in my hatch (all of it )
and I cant really tell the difference in sound at all. If you can notice you either have really good ears or not listening to your radio loud enough

Re: Subtle weight reduction (ITRacer121)
sweet, I think i will take out all the sound deadening i can get to, also I will take out that piece of plywood in the trunk (the one under the carpet)
What is the best way to remove the tar under the car?? I assume it would be hard to hold dry ice onto it.
What do you guys recommend??

Spill a huge 44 oz, fountain drink on your floorboard, and tell your parents that you have to take out the carpet to clean, after you see that is is uncleanable, then your carpet will have to stay out till further notice. Then remove all the sound dampening material on the floor board of the car.
Carpet, jute, and sound deadener=weight. You could also go on a diet yourself, we could all loose 20 lbs.

Re: Subtle weight reduction (SyndicateEH)
I'd leave the tar under the car, that is good weather protection.
Nope...remove the tar and paint with a thinner coating of protectant.

Re: Subtle weight reduction (deepnite)
Although quite time consuming you could gut ALL of the sound deadening crap and just put the carpet back into the interior. I'm guessing that the floor carpeting may be weighing in at a portly 3-5 lbs. so it's not the biggest deal to have it in the car still. I can't see it being too difficult as long as you don't hack away to get the carpet on in the first place.
