The Type-R rev limit is 8600. Unless you have something to remove it, that's what it will be...

would 8000 RPMs be safe and reliable for the ls/vtec

I'm not really up on LS/VTEC's. If you do alot of searching you'll find pretty much anything you need to know about it.

No it is not safe. The best thing is to keep a stock LS block at under 8000rpm's, unless you want to build it up.

he's right. it's not safe. It will "work fine" but that doesn't make it right.

The GSR block has numerous enhancements to run at 8000rpm over the LS block. I know the difference between 6800 and 8100 SOUNDS small, but in engineering terms, they are worlds apart. GSR blocks are stronger, have a full girdle, oil jets, and much better balance.

If the LS block was safe to 8000 we wouldn't have GSR blocks.

im guilty of doin the same thing as well...

but on topic, if you want to do a ls/vtec without building the ls block...you may want to just stick with gsr cams/b16 cams depending on what head you have IMO

the ls motor can rev up to 8k rpm's fine and with a little head work (valve springs and retainers) you can rev it up to 8500 rpm's

but the ls cannot rev over 8500 due to the floating rocker arm design. anything over 8500 rpm and the floating rocker arms will pop out, break, or cause valve float. doesn't matter what mods you do, those rocker arms will still be there.

because it stops producing power after 6500. and of course, for reliability reasons...
thats why the rev limit is set at 6800

what if he were to go with a set of aftermarket rocker arms, would that help out with his rev limit?
