vtec question

im having a problem with my vtec. from time to time it doesnt kick in an tops out at about 6,800k and then other times its fine my vtec will kick in fine and redline at 8k anyone know what could be the problem

you just clean out the screen... .also for vtec to engage you need to be close to WOT and not feathering the gas pedal slowly.

is it throwing a code? if not, check your oil....

You need to meet the five parameters to get VTEC to switch cam lobes.
Temperature: The engine must have reached normal operating temperature.
Throttle Position: The throttle must be open far enough to allow for increased airflow in VTEC.
Vehicle Speed: The car must be in motion (wheels spinning).
RPM: Engine must spin to it's target value. The GS-R will send it's "GO" signal for VTEC at 4400 RPM while the Type R sends it's signal at 5700 RPM.
Oil Pressure: The engine must be operating with normal and safe levels of oil pressure determined by the VTEC pressure switch.

If you don't have one of the five things, you won't switch cam lobes and 'VTEC won't activate' as many people put it.

VTEC solenoids can go bad. Look on eBay or on a junked car, you can probably get one fairly cheap. If not, try here:
