Default VTEC project: Update

Well I oficially started last night. I pulled the B20 head off the block...that went well, only took about 1 hour.

Im waiting on a B16 head now as well as some parts. I should have all teh stuff I need to get the head ready by tomorrow so I will be swapping out the valve springs and retainers this weekend. I hope to be on the road by next Saturday.

Good luck! What are your goals with the new project? HP? lb-ft? or are you just having fun?

Haha..sorry guys

Im doing ITR outer springs, Portflow inners and Portflow retainers along with an ITR intake manifold to start off. Ill probably use the stock 99 SI cams for a bit and then I might go with just some ITR cams. I want a high power "low" revving motor. Il love to make peak Hp around 7500 and peak TQ around 5000.

Im hoping for 200 WHP and 150 TQ.

Alright, here is the new parts list..anyone notice a new change

B16A2 head: $425
ITR/Portflow Springs/Retainers: $300
GSR head bolts: $75
Endyn PCV kit: $135
P28 ECU: $50
Hondata: $350-$450
Head Gasket: $45
ITR Manifold: $200
VTEC Oil Lines: $40
Modify head: $60
Intake manifold gasket: $6.00
Oil filter: $4
Oil: $6

Ok so I made it obvious

Originally the planwas to buy a P28 ECU ($50), then have it chipped by Locash ($170) and buy a V-AFC ($300) to tune it. So thats a total of $520.
Then I thought...for that price I can easily get a Hondata!
$50 for the P28 and then the Stage 2 is $355 through Darksol Motorsports, or Locash said he will sell it to me for $450 including tuning it for my car (+ dyno charge of $75, but I would have to pay tha twith either path anyway).
So now I can have a tuned Hondata for $525 vs a "tuned" Chipped P28 VAFC setup for $595. The Hondata is a much better system anyway as the timing as well as fuel can be controlled.

The thing is...i cant afford eveything at this moment..so I might have to ru na stock GS RECU for a bit...or maybe even (gasp) a LS ECU.

Will you have a higher gain in hp and torque with hondata? Are you considering larger injectors? Like maybe some 310's or somthing, not sure larger injectors will contribute to higher gains though?

Just curious why you chose to get Portflow inner springs if you only plan on getting ITR cams?

Why not? I might go bigger..or maybe not..but it cant hurt to have the nice stiff springs right?

hehe once you get those portflow inners you will notice how stiff they are. You will lose about 5hp to the wheels vs. the stock ITR inner springs because of the stiffness but they are good insurance for BIG cams. IMO, if you get 8 ITR intake-outers and 8 portflow inners, your springs can handle just about any cam you throw at them.

Which part makes no sense? the 5hp loss? It is from someone who dyno'd before and after replacing just the itr inner valve springs w/ the portflow ones. Stiffer valve springs cause more strain and will result in a little loss in hp. When you think about it, it makes sense, the cams will need to work harder to turn. The good thing about portflow springs tho is that they won't bind when running big cams. Just wait till you get the springs and feel how stiff they are, you'll see...

It does kinda make some sence to me, although I have never heard it before. I'll be interested to see what other people have to say about it.

Off Topic: HX_GUY, Like the new avistar, what does the green sign say?
