Vtec problems. help!
Hey so i'm new. i got a 95 integra gsr. so i have a problem with my vtec and i really need your help. no one within 10 hours of where i live knows anything bout my engine. so heres the thing, my vtec was working fine, but i decided to change my oil. take it for a drive vtec not working? couple days later starts to work excpet its not kicking in a 5,800rpm. its done this before when i have changed my oil. i dont know awhat it could be. i got a new vtec pressure switch out in, i just ordered a new vtec selenoid. could it be wiring or what. this is so frustrating...i checked the little screen by the selenoid and it was not clogged. someone said something bout oil pressure or thermostat. but i cant see it being that. if anyone could help me out thats would be awesome, thanks
im sure your vtec is working fine, stock gsr vtec crossover hits at 4,400 rpms. at 5800 rpms is where your secondaries (aka butterlies) open up. and thats what your hearing....and if its not working check your oil level, if its past one quart low it will not allow vtec to engage.
as u know vtec wont kick in if there is a oil problem, or it will be off and on, my suggestion would be to drain the oil, and change it again. If it start to mess up since uve changed the oil, thats gotta be the problem.
well this time use some engine flush or seafoam....pour either one down your crankcase let the engine run for about 5 min then change the oil..might have clunks from buildup that are clogging the oil ports.

Sounds like a problem that my 1994 GS-R used to have. Be very certain to put the correct amount of oil in . I switched to a full-synthetic (Mobil 1), and have not noticed the problem since.
This is a VERY common thing to ask, that's why you're not getting answers.
5 things have to happen for vtec to engage.
From Team Integra:
"In order for the ECU to initiate the VTEC system, 5 engine conditions must be met.
Temperature: The engine must have reached normal operating temperature.
Throttle Position: The throttle must be open far enough to allow for increased airflow in VTEC.
Vehicle Speed: The car must be in motion (wheels spinning).
RPM: Engine must spin to it's target value. The GS-R will send it's "GO" signal for VTEC at 4400 RPM while the Type R sends it's signal at 5700 RPM.
Oil Pressure: The engine must be operating with normal and safe levels of oil pressure determined by the VTEC pressure switch.
The ECU will send a signal for a spool valve to open. When this valve opens, oil is allowed into the pivot shaft inside the valve rockers and directed into the center rocker. Inside the center rocker, a set of pins are forced outward by the oil pressure and lock inside the rockers to both sides. This entire process occurs in 1/10 of a second. "
