vtec malfunction, code p1259
i was running my 01 gsr at about 7500 rpm when all of sudden it felt like it misfired, my buddy behind me said i spit out black smoke.
till today i tought it was just that a misfire.
till i checked out the code (p1259) and found out its a VTEC malfunction.
what could have caused this, and what should i check for to make sure nothing is wrong?
my car is stock and im pretty new to hondas so its hard for me to truely noticed vtec. But it feels like its still kicking fine.
has anyone experience this problem before and could enlighten me.
also i fell like my ground is bad ( not sure if its related) but my windows go up and down real slow, and my head lights dim when at idle.
how do i ensure a better ground?

Same problem I had on my EW1. Its either the vtec solenoid, oil pressure issue (clogged pick up in pan, or other), or electrical.
I spent countless amounts of time and money trying to figure mine out, turned out to be the connections to the ignitor had come loose (and worked fine when cold, but when the engine was hot caused the to expand and not make good contact)
check your oil pressure first, as a solenoid is not too cheap. if its good, check to
make sure power is there, and if you can swap a solenoid with somebody you know whos works....

if by oil pressure, you mean checking the oil level i did just that, and i was low.
way low 3 quarts to top it off
. scared me a little.
good thing i noticed it now and not later...
disconected the battery to reset everything ran find after adding oil. No light, and vtec seems to be kicking in just fine.
(i found out how to use the archive search function
)
also i think i did my oil changed about 4 weeks ago, how can i be so low on oil?
i dont have a leak.
only explanation i have is that im using 5w30 and i live in south texas....i think 10w30 should better...

yeah 3 quarts low is enough. keep an eye out on it, check it regular and
note if it burns it. frequent vtec usage on higher mileage cars can cause
a bit of oil burnage.
