Vtec will work without the o2 sensor, gas milage will be horrible. Did you acctually check the ecu codes by jumping the grey plug under the passenger side dash? If you checked your code and it is a still light, it signifies that the ecu is not functioning correctly.

The LS dizzy works fine. Make sure the Vtec solonoid is grounded properly.
Just be sure that there are no ecu codes(double check).

if your obd2 , and dont have the knock sensor, wouldnt that show a code?

you said earlier your light is constant, what did you mean?

how did you check if you had codes exactly?

yes, there is an evap sensor on the manifold. or there should have been at least. i have a jdm gsr (sirg) manifold so i had to take the evap off of my LS mani (the jdm manifold didnt have the two bolting locations directly on top of the manifold)... did you? i think theres a line that goes to it. maybe fuel, if you dont have that hooked up, i feel like you'd be spewin fuel, unless it was blocked. i dont know im confusing myself somone help me out

if the ecu is throwing coolant temp sensor code that is the reason. see your car has a few maps it runs off of. for instance when you first start your car for the first time in the morning it has a lower rev limit like 7000 or something. once it gets to a specified temp then it switches over to the primary map. which allows you to rev higher and vtec should engage. you do need a knock sensor or get your ecu chipped to not look for it.
