Default VTEC IS DEAD??

Hey,

I have a 00 Gs-r with 39000 miles and it hasent had the valves adjusted yet, it has the little tapping noise from the motor and i assume that means time for a tune up, but not my vtec doesnt kick in, could this be a result of the vavles being messed up? also, my shop said i need a cap and rotor also, this sound right? Thanks

JJ

check your oil level, let the car warm up, and lastly..Floor it.

if your vtec is not engaging, it should trigger a CEL.

2000 GS-R with 39,000 miles? wow. That's alot. I only have 3,700 miles on it. I barely drive my GS-R. Its my weekend car. I drive my Nissan Truck mostly...

Check the wires and get your adjustments done. It should be ok...

That's not true. I had a problem with my vtec not engaging a while back and I never got a CEL.

SOmetimes when I would change the oil in my 94 GSR the VTEC would not engage all the time for a day or two, then it would go back to normal of working perfectly. Just drive it around normally for a bit. Don't know why this happens, but just letting you know happens to others too.

my vtec didnt work so i bought a new head. there was something inside the head blocking the oil passages, causing it not to engage.

the mechanic was talkin about the distributor cap and rotor... cost for both is around 30 buxs at the dealership...

you can also take off the vtec solinoid and check the metal screen behind it.. if this is plugged up with junk.. then yes clean it out and thas probably why ur shiet wasnt workin.

also when did it stop workin, is ur car stock and u just cant feel it, do u know what RPM's the vtec and the secondary butterflys open up at, and is ur car idling high all the time meaning above 1000 rpms....ur car may be stuck in limp mode.. meaning no vtec.........

Vtec works on oil presure so check and see if there's oil, secondly check and see if the oil presure sensor is working.
