VTEC an automatic integra
Hi people. I might sound dumb btu im new at the ricing life and vtec is what i already know is " where its all at." The thing is can you Vtec a automatic. I just got my first car and its a automatic 01 silver gs integra. Shes pretty but not up to my par on the speed thing. so can some people help me.
Can i Vtec a automatic?

I hate Vtec automatics. Theres really no point.
On a Vtec car most of your power comes after 6krpm.
Most Automatics have a rev limiter at 5000rpm +/-.
So there is really no point.
I want to know what an Automatic JDM SiR-G Integra rev limiter is at.

Can you vtec an auto.? I dont understand your question you can have a vtec motor and have an automatic transmission, but it's not like you can buy vtec at store or something and put in your car, lol.
What do you plan on doing?

his information was wrong to begin with anyway....how can the car have a limiter at 5000 when the stock b18b revs to 6800?? you just assumed that automatic integras would just hit a wall at 5000 rpm with 1800 rpm more to go???
and to answer the users question....you can get a jdm sir-g (GSR) more than likely who you buy it from will send you the automatic transmission ALONG with the jdm ecu....only problem is...i dont know how compatible that will be with your tcm..(auto trannies have a lil box that controls the tranny)

I used 5k as a round about number, notice the +/- ...
But i know an Automatic is not goin to rev to 8200

If the dude wants an automatic tranny with Vtec then let him. And about the rev limiter, my integra used to be an automatic and it reved to 7000, redline is 6800, plus the got Jdm h22's and b18c's that are auto. So to answer the guy's question, yes, you can have an automatic with Vtec that's stock, and reliable, but only on JDM engines.
you can get automatic sir-g swaps on ebay but most of them are over 2000.
why spend that kind of $ on on autotragic car tho?

I think it's pointless that they offer automatic corvette's, mustangs and camaros. But, they still exist.

Its fact, when the key of vtec is hitting a certain RPM to activate, and an auto tranny cannot rev that high, it is thus, pointless. I dont have opinions, I have a book of facts.

An auto tranny can rev as high as a manual one, dude they do make auto Gsr's and auto everything almost in Japan, the only reason they would put a rev limit low is if the engine didn't make any power past that RPM, but the engine's pretty much the same, auto or manual, cept the flywheel, so it still makes power at the same rpm's as a manual, no difference in power in the engine, rev's just as high.

Look. the tranny doesnt set the redline. the ecu does. and if he gets a vtec engine or a vtec head hes gona need to change the ecu to one of the vtec model cars. in which case the redline will be whatever it is in the ecu he buys.
Theres no reason to buy an aftermarker ecu or chip his stock ecu. and revving higher doesnt mean **** unless you build the engine to breathe at that rate. also you have to build the engine from the bottom to the top to be able to hit 9krpms.
What i recommend is if you really want vtec to get a gsr swap and convert your car to manual. or if you want to keep automatic for whatever your reason, then just buy a gsr long block and a gsr automatic tranny from japan on ebay.
and youll be set.
And to all you people who are talking about automatics vs manuals..... it all comes down to gear ratios...... you can have a gsr manual tranny but if my auto tranny has the gear ratios of a b16 who do you think is going to win?
thing is the best gears you can get in an auto tranny for an integra is gsr gear ratios. even then i dont think the gsr automatic gear ratios are as short as the gsr manual gear ratios.
and *** for american cars like corvette and whatnot.... well check this out. i have a stingray corvette. it is automatic and for the longest time i wanted a manual but as i learned more about transmissions i realised that getting the manual parts wouldnt help me much cause the stingray has 4 gears in automatic and 4gears in the manual transmission with nearly identical gear ratios.... so you would be faster in the manual due to faster shifting.. but not a lot faster. and this is a big trend with the american car companies... usually their muscle cars have the same gear ratios or very similar gear ratios in their automatics as they do in their manual cars. only exceptions are the highest end cars... that have very small geared 6speed trannies like the camaro ss and so on.

also to add. american car companies make a lot of automatic cars and most domestics are usually designed to be both manual and automatic but usually more automatic depending on the car.
so their auto trannies arent that bad....
but cars like the integra....
they werent really intended to be automatic. it was more like something they decided to do in the end process so they could cover more of the market.
