read the code on the front of the head....check for a vtec solenoid....and also, check the cams, see if they have a lobe in the middle of the other two.

If it's actually a b16 head than it's vtec, all b16's are vtec. However there was no 95 civic with a b16 in it from the factory, at least not from the US. Hope somebody's not trying to pull a fast one on you. Also if you don't know how to tell a vtec head from a non-vtec head you probably need to do some more research before building an ls-v.

Look on the side of the block and see what eninge it says stamped on there like Mine would say D16Y8 so yours should say B16 then check for the Vtec solenoid (sould look somthing like this http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/2800/img2216uc0.jpg)

This is the engine stamp of a B18 I think its kinda hard to see but you get the just of it.

He has a head not a block, a B16 head should read PR3, just post a picture of the head on the exhaust side...a close up, just make sure you clean it up before taking one then post it up. And we can tell you what it is, and what year it is...

Look for the three-cam lobes on both sides. Easiest for me. And if the cams aren't there, look for three rocker arms in each opening. And if those aren't there, then read the above..

I know I am probably wrong, but is it a B16, or a d16??

95 del Sol VTEC had a B16 engine.

The US had a car with a B16 every year from 93-00 except for 1998. del Sols were gone after 97, and the Si coupe didn't come around until 99.

So there is no USDM 98 B16, similar to how there is no USDM 99 B18C5.
