Default vafc problem...

Hey guys, I just installed my vafc yesterday and have a couple of problems that I think are related. The first one is, the vafc doesn't properly read my rpms. At idle, the vafc is about 200 rpms low, and by the time I get get up to 5000 rpms, the vafc only shows me at around 3600 rpms. When I am at 8000 rpms, the vafc shows 6000 rpms.

The second problem is, when i set my vtec point, it doesn't actually kick in until about 2000 rpms after it is supposed to. Since the vafc is way behind on my rpms, I'm thinking this is why the vtec doesn't crossover until almost redline.

Has anyone had this problem and know what I need to do? I haven't changed any settings away from default except the vtec changes. Btw, I have a 97 gsr.

I forgot to change Ne: ~ 6000rpm to Ne: ~ 8000rpm. Hopefully that will fix it

I'm at work so I haven't got a chance to mess with it anymore but I realized I also haven't changed the intake pressure or air correction rate settings. Default is Pr: 760 ~ 0...anyone know what it needs to be for GSR? (760 ~ 0, 760 ~ 1.0, 760 ~ 2.0)

actually KC GSR your vafc is accurate to the RPM you are running. the stock tach sucks.

Yes it does, but it's not off by 2000rpms.

What he said. It's probly in 6 Cyl Mode instead of 4 Cyl mode. When I got my VAFC installed, it was at 6 Cyl and i had the same result. Changed it to 4 Cyl mode and it was all good...

i accidentally forgot to change it to 4 cly when i hit initialize, and i started my car. i heard a strange bumping, thumping sound, like a faint subwoofer was playing but from my engine bay. i got scared and realized my mistake =P

should save your settings, if not its an internal problem with your unit, you should try and contact apex'i.

What happened was when i went through the setup before i started the car the first time, I set everything but then i didn't read the instructions correctly and I selected initialize. Obviously this reset everything back to default and so it was running in 6 cyl mode again, that was the prob. Now if I can ever figure out why the heck vtec drops out occasionally around 7000 rpm I'll be happy

yea, i did the same thing when i first installed my vafc. i didn't read the manual thoroughly . i initialized it and kept getting false readings. didn't know i was resetting my setting by doing this. i went back to the manual and figured everything out. you're not alone on this.
