turning vtec off?
hey, i got a friend who got a GS-R swap into a 95 civic, and he had some problems with it, and he told me that the shop who did it, some how "turned the vtec off". i dont know if this is possible seeing how the vtec is in the head, but i thought maybe you could turn the secondary runner off, so the second vtec wouldnt hit, i dont know if im right, or the shop who did the swap is wrong, so any info on this would be nice. thanks
there is no second vtec. There are secondary butterflys in the GSR intake manifold that open separately from the actualy vtec engagement.
Also, there is no way to "turn off" either of these actions. Something would have to be wrong for them not to function.
There's a list for reasons why vtec might not engage. I don't know them all, but a nice healthy search would probably be a good start.

what model civic is it, they most likely didn't wire it up right or you have other problems.
why do you think vtec isnt working? its hardly audible on a stock gsr, and its not gonna throw you back into your seat. at about 5800 rpms you should hear the iab's opening, if so they probably wired it up correctly

its a 95 civic DX, i just think the shop who did it is a scam, cuz they charged him 6000$ for the swap, but he got a clutch, but not a flywheel, but he told me something like they disconnected the wires from the vtec selonoid??? would that make vtec not engage at all? i dont know too much about vtec....as im sure u already know, LOL
yes diconecting the solenoid will cause it to not work at all.
you wont be able to drive without a flywheel, so if he can drive it its there.
your probably gonna have to wire the vtec, knock sensor and iab's up and try and get some money back, it sounds like they charged you 3 grand to pull a motor and drop another in and said the hell with everything else that needed done

the solenoid not plugged up, low oil, or the simple fact that your friend let somebody charge him 6000 dollars for a GSR swap and didnt get the common courtesy of a reach around
