Default turbo help...

sup guys...just turboed my GSR a few days ago...running pretty well..cept for what im going to ask on how to fix...first of all.. when we connected the downpipe to the starting of the cat..the flanges were ligned up wrong...but we managed to bolt it up right. After we started it up, there was a big exhaust leak coming from there..and everytime you get on the turbo , its like holding up...it wants to go, but doesnt...not enough back pressure because of the leak...

So I took it to a muffler shop and had them cut off the flange to the downpipe, and reweld it straight so it fit right up to the cat...thinking this would fix the problem with no backpressure......

sadly the problem is still there..............what could this be??? any opinions..

I hate to have to tell you this, but backpressure is a bad thing on a turbo setup. Look for the problem elsewhere. Check your wastegate to see that it's functioning properly and that it's set properly.

First double check your installation, have an experienced person go through it as well and then get on over to a dyno with a wideband.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me, and well truth is there is plenty more places than the flange(you fixed) that could cause an exhuast leak. Double check all your bolts/studs, check Turbo-Manifold, check Dpipe to turbo, check wastegate to Manifold, Check Manifold to head.

Just rev the car quickly and you should be able to hear where your leak is coming from.

If it is infact an exhuast leak, which sounds like what you described youd experience power loss, slower spool time, and well you can hear it easily depenidng on the size of the leak.

another possibility as well (If your using gaskets). I myself and most people I know dont run gaskets because they well just cause problems later. As long as the surfaces are flat you shouldnt leak.

Drag III your signature is hilarious

check out your downpipe where it bolts to the turbo. it might be loose bolts.
