Default Tokico Illumina shock and spring kit?

I was interested in the illuminas and found this kit online from a ht sponsor..

Its the illuminas with tokico springs tossed in to make a kit..

http://www.statracing.com/buy/...t.asp

Anyone ever try this kit? How is it?

my friend had this set up on his civic. he always enjoyed the adjustability of the illiuminas, but he always found himself switching from softer to stiffer for highway use, and vice versa for around town. i would have no opposition, i thought they rode pretty well.

I also looked into buying that setup. I found that its a step above tokico blues and a little better than KYB AGX. I think its better to get a used set of better shocks and springs. I found koni yellows and eibach sportlines for 400. check craigslist or hondamarketplace for used parts.

shocks are fine, the springs are trash though. stock rates with a lower height, that's it. i would just buy the shocks and get a real lowering spring like the tein h or s tech or the h&r sports. the rates are much better on any of those 3.

or those, just check the rates at team-integra.net and make sure it's around the lbs you want. they have an article of most every lowering spring rate.

That's interesting to know. I have the same set-up and i have been complaing about my spring rates trying to figure out what they were so i could go stiffer. Now that i know this i know why i was complaining. thanks for the info.

My father has this set up on his dd crx. The springs are soft and dont lower the car that much, but its an excellent choice for daily driving imo.

I have the Eibach pro's and the Tokico. Nice setup. Provides extra cornering ability and lowers to a decent height. It rides comfy too. I have mine set to '3' but before i would have it at 2 until everything broke in.

i'm amaized at the difference between the da and dc coils in the tokico kit. the da kit doesn't go down nearly as much as the dc kit.

there was a good read in here about "adjustable" coilovers. Basically the long and the short of it, is that if you don't get a crazy expensive kit, the "adjustibility" isn't all that it is cracked up to be. I would have to say that im finding this holds true with the tokico's. I have the illumina coilover kit and notice that there is less difference between 1 and 3 than 3 and 5. Also, not real impressed with the spring rates, could be much stiffer of a set up. All and all a good daily setup, but a little lacking in dampening. Also, the way they adjust the ride height will change the dynamics of the spring. I wouldn't recomend these if you are planning on any suspension tuning.

it's the springs making the blues too soft. as for the OP, give them a shot, see what you think. once the car is on lowering springs they are easy to change out. i rolled on DC tokico springs for 6 months before i got tired of bottoming out and the understeer. a larger rear bar helps with a lot of it but i finally installed tein h techs. the fronts are only 50lb stiffer than tokicos but the rears are double. tokicos are around 120lb and the teins are around 250lb. we'll see how these work next week when i get my new motor in.
