timing is off
hi, i have a b17 and i cant seem to get my timing right. its off by almost a teeth. if you get everything line up, the teeth on the belt and the cams teeth will sit on one another. the only way to get the belt in place is to be off by almost a teeth. i have took it to a couple of shops and they cant seem to find the problem.. please help me with some advise thanks...
How do you know the timing is off?
Does it start and backfire through the intake?
If not, change your plugs, wire, cap, and rotor. Ir thats all good move the distributor and try to re-time the car. If you don't know how, as someone who knows how to help.

yes everything has been change but the rotor.. but the thing that catches me is that the car runs but it has a lack of power. around 3.5-5 thousand rpm u can feel the lack of power. the distributor has to be on fully advance for the timing to be close to where it supposed to be.. but still not right on it.
oh yea about being sure about the timing, once i got the belt on, i top disc center it and the intake manifold cam is off by almost a teeth.. no back fire or anything. just lack of power..
definetly off a tooth. make sure you use a couple allen wrenches or punches to hold the cams at tdc when reinstalling the belt. http://www.team-integra.net/se...=1044

ok, this might be a stupid question, but did you get the right belt?
If you think you did everything right, make sure there isn't something else wrong with the car.
Hopefully you didn't mess up and bend any valves. Let me know more.

Be sure you install the belt over each sprocket in the correct order. Always put it around the crank sprocket, hold it tight and put it around the exhaust cam gear sprocket, then around the tensioner and water pump, and then let the belt pull on the tensioner as you put it over the intake sprocket. You could also pull down the tensioner pulley all the way and tighten the bolt before you put the belt on. This will make it a bit easier to get the belt on and around both cam gears.
If you put it over the intake cam gear first before the exhaust cam gear, you will almost certainly be off by a tooth or so, because of slack on the forward side or top of the belt. Slipping it over the exhaust cam first and then the intake cam lets the slack be taken up by the tensioner pulley.
Also remember to go through the proper tensioning sequence. After installing the belt, let the tensioner pulley snug itself on the belt, and tighten the bolt. Rotate the engine 5-6 times, making sure that nothing interferes and that everything stays lined up with each rotation. If not, then you're off. If it stays lined up, then loosen the tensioner pulley bolt, rotate the crank pulley by 3 teeth on the cam gears, and tighten the tensioner pulley bolt to spec. This takes up any remaining slack and prevents the belt from jumping time after you start the engine.
