Default Test pipe question

Hey all,

I am planning on putting a test pipe, or high flow cat. But, I have heared that this causes a loss in power. Is this true, and should I do this mod to my '99 LS?

IMO a test pipe sounds like crap. Just get a high flow cat and an o2 simulator. But make sure the rest of your exhaust is up to par.

you will loose a little low end tq but i doubt youll notice loosing any tq and youll gain some top end. if you use a peice of thin pipe then it will be raspy but a slightly thicker pipe will sound better.

If everything else about your exhaust system is stock, don't get a test pipe. In honesty, it will sound like ****. You probably wont benefit from any power gains since (if) you have the stock straw piping.

Think about it this way... if you're planning to stay all motor, then the highest I would go is 2.75" piping (custom mandrel bends) exhaust system from the header back including a high flow cat or test pipe. Else, if you are going the FI route and plan to make more than 300whp, then a 3" will suffice.

What are your plans anyhow?
