It'll sound different depending on what exhaust they have, resinators, and or if they have a header. Certainly much louder though opposed to having a cat.

Well, it shouldn't be much louder. Remember, it's the resonator and muffer (muffles sound) that makes the exhaust quiet. The catalytic converter is only a little longer than 1 foot and has some properties of a resonator, but without it, it won't make much of a difference at all.

When I put mine on, the exhaust sound wasn't any louder, but it sounded "smoother." It sounded like the exhaust gases rushed out easier, rather than a "put-put-put" sound.

Hard to explain, but I'm just trying to say that having a test pipe won't make the system much louder, if anything at all.

EDIT: Well, from other responses....maybe because my turbo is such a restriction in the exhaust, my test pipe doesn't make my system loud.

i HAD a testpipe on my teg, but took it off since it:

a. sounded like **** (super loud)
b. didn't fit correctly (thanks testpipe.com )
c. made my car STINK....exhaust smelled like ****.
d. it is illegal to remove your cat anywhere in the counrty -- i don't want to pay a $1000 fine just to free up 2 hp..

edit: can't spell

i had a test pipe on my gsr and it got me thrown off the track. 102 db with I/H/E big difference in time though. about 3 tenths. worth if for racing if there's no decible limit.

Test pipes are for racing purposes most of the time and not for daily driving, IMO. The fine is HUGE if you get pulled for it - not worth it to me. There are gains there but I'd much rather spend the money on a nice exhaust system rather than a really large fine. HyTech if you're looking for power...

And to 01nhbgsr - you're living in San Jo, CA and you're interested in a test pipe?!?! Pretty ballsy of you, especially with the import scene out there. I'm from Fremont, CA and I know how hard-core the PD is about busting us. The test pipe will really make you miserable in the long run, IMO.

Use a small oval muffler as a test pipe..thats what im doing..acts like a second resonator...

Since when did racetracks start disqualifying people for being too loud? That sounds extremely stupid

Ya, whats up with that? The testpipe i got from them was a few inches too short !? Worst $40 i ever spent Just takes up space in my room. I' gonan throw it away soon. Needless to say, i ripped that ish out and got an obx resonated test pipe. Is just a pipe, not even obx can **** that up.
mine fit; but they sent me one without an o2 sensor bung which is on the older model tegs and not the one for my year

I've seen ALOT of dyno charts showing the test pipes add at least 5hp- not 2. If it was 2 hp, then screw that, but 40$ for 5hp is fine by me!! Also, when it comes to forced induction, test pipes add SOO much more.

as soon as i get my test pipe in, i hope to post some b4 and after dyno charts. I have only been there for the dyno runs at my local shop-- so I don't have the charts. But believe me when i say it is a definate dyno proven mod for at least 5hp.

Power gains depends alot on the condition of your cat as well...if its new then dont expect to get much power from it

The funny thing is when I first threw the testpipe on, it felt like it lagged instead of making power, but it just robbed me for some tq but added a good amount of high end power to drop me an extra 3/10 off the 1/4mile.

correct me if im wrong here: but lets take a big sport-ute or a zo6 vette that is making in upwards of 400hp, and gets less than 15 mpg on high octane fuel. would an integra with a test pipe really be spitting out more polutants?

I agree, I think there is a much better place to be arguing about polluting than our little 4 bangers that run test pipes.
