I've had a test pipe on my gsr...w/ just i/h/e and I thought it made a difference. Car felt more repsonsive, throatier tone from the exhaust...BUT, the only down side is that everytime you come to a stop light, you start smelling all your exhaust fumes. GF used to complain that I smelled like I was working on my car all day....but really, it was just the drive from my place to her place! LOL High flow cats would be just as good. Not sure where you located and how strict the laws are in your area, but i know in CA, if CHP catches you with out a cat, they'll consider it as an automatic impound and $$$$$ in fees
a testpipe definently frees up the engine a little
when i threw mine on...it did smell like crap for awhile..but i got used to it.....and now i kinda like it...lmao
i do have a "test-cat" for sale

Basically almost any mod you do to your car can show either good/bad results... depends... trial and error baby. Try these peoples' test pipes, then come back and update us!
cant wait til 2006 ...heard NC is not going to have emission test on all 95 obd1 cars and below but having only safety check....ready to run my test pipe and some other goodies I haved planned....

I had a test pipe on my car for a while.
It seemed to free up a little power, but I eventually got tired of the increased sound.
I'd also be willing to let mine go for a reasonable price. Let me know.
BTW: I never smelled anything weird with mine, maybe the others just didn't seal like they should've

the only way you'll benefit with a test-pipe is if your cat is clogged now, a new cat, or a high-flow cat will yeild the same results as an illegal test-pipe. Madison doesn't test for emissions so I have a test-pipe which i could tell a difference from my 120xxx mile cat.

Its the "same results" from a test pipe and a straight/test pipe. I tried searching to find the figures but they did a test on different hi flow cats and test pipes and how much more rescrictive each is compared to the other. Carsound hi-flow cat was the best rated but the test pipe was quite a bit more free flowing. Especially if your car has quite a bit of power. Having a turbo, supercharged or highly modified all motor setup you will see nice gains from a test pipe.
Ive got one on my GSR-Turbo and I could feel the extra power and the spool time was a tad quicker. I've seen cars get tuned before and after straight pipes and get 10whp...those are on turbo cars. They make quite a difference...my exhaust is still pretty quiet too. Most are a bit louder.
I suggest Test pipe if you want every little bit of power. A hi-flow cat would definately be a nice alternative though.

test pipe or straight pipe which is what we call it out here, you can definetly feel more power and sounds better to me, But i have a ls tranny so it wasn't that loud on the highway. If you got a SI tranny then you might have something to worry about.
get a high flow cat, car sound makes a nice one that wont affect performance and wont make your car sound ricey like most test pipes do and it wont polute as much.
unless you have a turbo its not worth putting in a test pipe.
