Tach Freaking out
ok so i have a 91 Teg with a GSR swap and every time the motor revs over 7K the tach goes Nuts.
Is there any way to fix this or does some one have a 92~93 GSR cluster for sale?
i have also looked into putting a 94+ cluster in the car.
Buddy has one i can have and there are several at my local junk yard i can pull wiring and a VSS from but is it even worth doing?
and yes i did a search for this a did find any thing helpful.

Is it the speedometer going nuts or your RPM gauge?
If vss check for corrosion at the vss plug or for loose wires.
If it's your RPM gauge check your distributor ignition coil and ground wire at the thermostat housing.

Does it bounce? My buddy had a DA and his was doing that at low RPM, he had to change his speedo cable that ran into the trans. DA's have the awesome space age cable that spins from the trans to the gauge...
Ok the "RPM" guage is called a Tachometer or Tach for short.
car seems to run fine even over 7K. if i was having coil or dissy problems i would think it would studder and misfire.
I was told it was freaking out because i was over the 7K redline of the stock DA tach.
seen as my GS-R motor redline is 8K i could see this being true.
so what i'm asking is does any one have a GSR in a 90~93 LS and does your tach go crazy after 7K?
if this is the case would it be better to get a 92~93 GS-R cluster or should i just get the vss from a 94+ tranny and wire in a 94+ cluster?

i have seen on other older imports (300Z) it was ment to get your atention when you over rev'ed the motor
i had a 90 integra with the 7k redline cluster. it went past 7k and to 8k with no funny acts on the cluster. so it shouldnt go crazy just because your cluster redlines at 7.
same goes on my crx. 6.5k redline and easily goes up to 8k. i would check the distributor bolts and make sure its tighten all the way in. the coil inside could also cause this problem.
