Default Suspension question.....

ive read and read as much on the board as i can, and it has helped tremedously. I tried to search but nothing came up. I just recieved my neuspeed race springs today, and they will be matched with my tokico illuminas. Will i need to cut the bumpstop? Any other suggestions, please let me have them, i plan on doing these myself. Will i need a spring compressor?

TIA

I'm under the impression that Neuspeed doesn't want you to cut the bumpstops (even on their Race springs).

Spring compressor will make removing the stock spring easier, but you definitely won't need it to put the coilover assembly back together b/c the Race springs are so short.

if you're replacing your stock springs then yes, you will need a spring compressor to remove them. do not try and do it without a compressor or you might have your hand ripped off . search around for an auto parts store that rents such equipment. some places refund your payment when you return the compressor.

Check the papers that came w/ the springs, it should have something about cutting the bumpstops. My H&R Sport springs said to NOT cut my bumpstops, so I did not.

You'll definitely need a spring compressor if you're removing the stock springs/shocks assembly. I'd suggest you either try and rent one from pepboys. I've tried autozone and their spring compressor wouldn't fit into the thick coil stock springs.

The pepboys' spring compressor have the U-shaped hook that allows to slide it on first. If you can't rent one, you'll have to buy a set for ~$50.

Leave the bumpstops on. The instructions stat that the bumpstops are to remain stock. This is because Neuspeed engineers its springs to work wiht the stock bumpstops to create the desired spring rate. If you were to cut the bumpstops, the overall spring rate would be too soft. Cutting the bumpstops does allow an extra amount of suspension travel, but Neuspeed's belief is that it is more important to have full-sized bumpstops to protect against bottoming out and potential suspension or chassis damage. I said "potentially a good thing" cause there's a chance that you used the bumpstops that came with the Tokico high performance shocks. Remember, I said the Neuspeed springs are designed to be used with the stock bumpstops. If the shop that your going to leaves the Tokico bumpstops on, then I would say you need to go through the effort to pull out the shocks and springs and swap in the factory bumpstops. *note* that other lowering springs companies require you to have the bumpstops cut. If you want to know how to install their springs, make sure you read the instructions. Some companies' instructions are a lot better than others.

Hope that helps ya.
