Default strange brake behavior

something kinda wierd happen wit my brake pedal feel today. Please tell me if you guys can explain this or know what the problem may be.

oh, and its the first time it ever happened.

I came to a stop while driving, and came to a complete stop at a red light. Well so i depressed the pedal and of course there was the pressure of the pedal and it came to a stop wit the pedal depressed the usual inch n a half or so. But as i kept holding the pedal at that position, the pedal slowly lost its upward pressure against my foot, so the pedal began to sink further down with me applying the same amount of pressure. Eventually it pretty much went all the way down, and i had to keep it there for me to keep the car from rollin. It happened again at the next light, and this time i tried to see if i kept the pedal at the same position as when i first come to a stop, but after the pedal lost its pressure, it started to roll again.

Then just as unexpectly this occurred, it stopped happening. on my drive home tonight, i tried to see if it happened again, and nothing.

Ok so for those who are woundering what i've done recently, well i did install my rear pads and flush the brake fluid. But its been a week since i did that, and i've never had a problem. I checked the brake fluid right away after this happened, and it was at max where it should be, and the cap to the reservoir tank was properly closed.

Anybody??

Thanks,
Eric

Did you pinch your brake lines when you changed the pads? If any of that old burnt, nasty, crystalized fluid got up into your master cylinder it can very easily screw up your master cylinder. Seen it a thousand times. I'll bet thats what happened.

I'm having the same problem, and trying to save the 200+ dollars to get a new brake master cylinder to fix it. The brakes are hydraulic, and you're just losing pressure. As for why it happens so spontaneously, I don't know, but it did for me too and got progressively worse. Until you can get it fixed (soon, 'cause you don't want that surprising you when you least need/expect it) just pump the peddle a bit to get the pressure you need.

Did you bleed the brakes after flushing and filling? There could be air in the lines perhaps.

I had a similar problem but on a mitsubishi eclipse. I just had a tiny air bubble in the line and it went away and came back because the bubble got caught in the caliper in a rear wheel so i didnt notice much, then under heavy braking the air bubble allowed the fluid to expand and boil, SOOO be careful, rebleed the system just to be safe dude, goodluck, keep us posted
