Starting trouble..
Hey guys new to the HT forums, and I had trouble... Bought a 98 teg and it had a bypass push button. The reason for this post is because I want to eliminate the push button and make it start with the key, which, starting it with the key won't work. A friend told me it could be the ignition harness? Need some help.. Changed the battery and starter and no change.. But it does start with the push button.
Most likely the "push button" start has rewired the starter circuit.
Do you still have to step on the clutch to start the car?
Also what is the MM&Y of your car?
I would start by fallowing the leads from the push start button to where they are connected and take a pix and post it. 94

What color is the "starter cable" and where is the connection, [engine bay or under the dash]?
Also, if the other lead is connected to the negative terminal, [I assume you mean the neg. terminal of the batt.] however, if connected to the neg. terminal of anything of anything it can not work the starter motor solenoid is triggered 12V+, [positive], are you sure it is the neg.(-) and not the pos.(+) of the batt.???
Is the car auto ot a 5 speed? 94

LOL, that's pretty bad, but it is on the pos.(+) of the batt.
I am surprized the switch still works, looks like it can't be more then a 3A switch.
Is the black/white starter lead cut or is the green lead just paralled to it?
If cut, reconnect ands testing can be done.
Still need to know if it is auto or 5 speed?

You can skip the bypass jump part as the push button is already doing that. 94
