What flywheel and any preceeding clutch or flywheel work? Not an expert here, but search "starter flywheel." I found several threads.

Found a picture like you describe on the TI thread above. The toothed ring detached.

my problem is definetly on the first link in drives post.it has to be,but i can't figure out why it did it.the original owner put the stage 3 6 puck act clutch and fidanza lightweight flywheel in at 171,000 and it has 183,000.how could it go bad in that short of time?could some bolts be loose?

If I understand, you have an aluminum Fidanza flywheel and the tooth ring is steel, and the attachment came apart. Heavy old LS/OEM flywheel and tooth ring are one piece. Looks like the post. He did not exactly specify why it came apart. He said pressed on and it separated. I do not have one to look at, only a good picture from ebay.

Look here, a forum discusses that separation and spoke with Fidanza rep.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-eng...failure-2.html

Then he asks me what clutch Im running; and I told him ACT sprung six puck. His response?:

"Oh thats why it came off you must have overheated the flywheel because you have a ceramic-metallic clutch."

the ring gear on a flywheel isn't actually pressed on so to speak.
when heated, the ring gear expands. it's then placed over the flywheel face. once cooled, the gear contracts to a tight fit over the flywheel face.

pretty cool ****. my brother actually tried replacing a ring gear this way once.
can't remember if he was successful or not

From what I read, heating with the stage 3 clutch can then remove it.

Clutch flywheel mismatch, and I do not know about quality. I like one piece of metal for a flywheel. There are light steel ones.

Exedy and Act make chromemoly lite. You may want others to weigh in on which they like, start a thread specific to that, or search flywheels on HT.
