srr s-1 coilover system comments please!
Hey everyone I have found a super good deal that I cannot pass up on these coilovers, I cannot find any information on them and only found one user that has them (todasi) He said that thye are really stiff. For street and occasional autox driving I was wondering if this setup would be fine, Im not too picky about ride quality but why would a stiff coilover be bouncy i dont get it? thanks if someone can help? Also I cannot pass up this deal, just clarify this because the price I have found is cheaper then the tien basic setup.
Also i know its the stupidest thing but i do have cut springs currently, I didnt this because i was low on funds, how will the ride differ. Thanks

What are the spring rates? How adjustable is the damping?
Ride quality does not suffer too badly on stiff springs if the dampers are of high quality and are nicely matched to the rates. Not many people are using the SRR - they may be great, but you will not get much feedback on them.
I found this on the SRR North America site:

I would love to hear your impressions of them - both in terms of build quality and ride quality. Do you know what spring rates you are getting?

since you're getting a good deal on it, you should get it, srr products are good overall and im sure there coilover system will live up to it's name, so maybe you should get it, use it and right a good review on them.
Anyone with more info on them. I am thinking about getting them for my EF, but I hear they dont have damper adjustabilty.
But it looks like a shortended strut, which I really like. Anyone with more info?

What would you like to know. Todasi has had them in a few track days and loves them. They are very stiff but nice. They are preload / height adjustable. Spring rate vary from 4k up to 14k. SRR seems to think that 10 -12k is the best for light track use.
I have a set laying in my basement. I will try to comment on some of your questions. Due to the reason that I picked up mine directly in SSR home land (Taiwan), there could be some differences.
Piston Size?
Can't confirm, but it is by much larger than the stock hondas. I would say almost, if not more, double the size of factory shocks.
Are they Steel or Alum.?
Aluminum
Adjustible Damper?
No
Does it include Pillow ball upper mounts?
Yes.
Shorter strut?
Definitely.

yeah, but they have some ridiculously whack spring rates of like 12k up front and 4k out back, and are valved appropriately. that means to run a proper set-up you'd have the rear's outside of their ideal spring rate

That's completely untrue. We sell SRR S1 with Your choice of spring rates. They are all special order. We do not stock them because of this.

I'll see if my comments will help..
I've used these shocks somewhat extensively. Ranging from daily drivers to track use...
For everyday driving.. they're VERY stiff and very harsh.. Almost to the point of being unbarable.
For track.. all I can say is WOW.. they're absolutely amazing. The car handles like a charm.
The specs for them have been posted... 4k-14k springs.. and yes... 10k-12k is ideal.. but you'll have to mix and match the front and back. We're using 12k in the front with some 8k in the rear.. (this is for a CRX) Seems to work great.
Although it lacks the damper adjusting function like other manfuacturers. The ability to adjust the fork height somewhat compensates. The shock seems to be well balanced with the short shaft. So.. with the coils lowered.. you'll be able to extend the fork to make up for the camber difference.
Reliablilty... Not very reliable for a street car if you're running over potholes everyday. You'll go through them pretty quickly (within a few months. I know.. cause I have a few friends who went through sets) As for warranty.. depends on your dealer. We were dealing with the exclusive North American distributor. Not very pleasant people to deal with... But that's another story.
Oh.. if you're considering the SRR final drive.. re-consider... That's all I have to say.. and if you want proof of my comment.. I'll send you some pics.
