Speed sensor and VTEC
I have a 90 teg with a obd1 ecu and crvtec engine, do i need the speed sensor hooked up to get vtec to kick in? this is a dirt racecar so i dont have the dash gauges or anything or can i hook up the solenoid to say a shift light and make it activate? any help would be useful on this as to how to get around the speed sensor. Thanks Chad the harness is out of a 94 teg ls

The ECU is one I purchased from ebay chipped, I do not need a knock sensor redline is 9,000 i think and vtec at 5500. I think that was all the details given when I purchased the ECU. Are their any other ways around needing a VSS ? I am using a S1 tranny and as far as I am aware their isn't a VSS that runs to the ECU. The harness itself was from a 1994 auto LS and that had one on the tranny I believe. Any help would be appreciated. I haven't driven the car yet as the race season has not started. I am just trying to get past problems I think I may have at the track. The motor has just idled for alittle while since I built it.
I would assume it is possible to wire a toggle switch and just activate VTEC when I am on the track? with a 12 volt power source? This is strictly a race car so no windows just one seat and 9 inch wide hoosier racing tires. So practicality can go out the window with this one. But whe I assume everyone knows what ussually happens....

I think that you can program the ECU to operate VTEC without the VSS input. If you just run a switch, the ECU may be running the incorrect fuel maps and ignition for the high lift lobes.
If the ECU is OBD1 (most likely), you can look into Crome to program it.
