well the speed sensor is not located on the motor, so that shouldn't play a part in it. It is located on the tranny. So, did you use the GS-R tranny as well ?

Also, you said, you "think" you wired everything in correctly. So, if you're not sure, you might want to double check anything that you had to hard wire.

Are you using the ECU that came with the GS-R motor also ? Since your car was a non-vtec chassis, what all did you wire ?

The GS-R motor should've had a knock sensor that would've needed wired, and the VTEC soleniod. I think that's all.

I used the jdm gsr motor wth the jdm lsd tranny and the p72 that it came with. I wired in vtec sol, vtec oil pressure sens and knock sensor. I didnt think those had anything to do with the speed sensor though. And if the speed sensor was bad would the speedometer still work?

Okay I went over some of Kate's wiring yesterday. We fixed the knock sensor b/c it was broken and also wired it to the correct spot. Check over the other wires and everything appears to be okay. She did not wire anything with the VSS, that is all still stock and going to the correct location within the wireharness. When she drives the car and goes about a mile it then throws the VSS CEL.

Could there be something else causing this CEL to be going on? Like another sensor or ground not wired in correctly? Her speedo works fine. I know on my hatch my speedo works but my EMS does not see my speed.

Did you remember to reset the ECU after changing those ?

So you changed the plug that goes into the vss and still nothing?
Not sure if this will make a differnce but according to the post on boostedhybrid its fuse number 24...I would check to make sure the right fuse number is in there...just incase there is a short if the right one isn't in there it will not blow when it is shorted out.

Ok Here is some more suggestions I had a post up on Boosted-Hybrid and this is what they have to say
Ok. Maybe if I explain how the cicuit works you can start along on this diagnostic journey.
When the ignition switch is in the ON or in START position, battery voltage is supplied from fuse 24 through the black/yellow wire to the VSS. The sensor is grounded by the black wire. The speedometer and other control units in the circuit supply about 5 volts to the yellow/white wire. The VSS intermittenly grounds the yellow/white wire which genterates a pulsed signal in it. The number of pulses per minute increases and decreases with the speed of the car.

I would start checking pins on your conversion harness or looking for an open wire from the single wire from the PCM to the sensor itself. Generally that code is displayed for OBD-II vehicles. No MIL should be illuminated for that kind of fault for an OBD-I ECU. Strange........

Basically according to him just like we thought it has to do with that wiring harness...I don't know if you can get your hands on another conversion harness and test that like I'm not sure if dave has an extra one just to test..Or if anything your best bet sounds like on a warm day tracing all the wire from the top (where it is uncut) on the stock ls ecu harness where the computer plugs in and just trace e every wire one by one and see if there is a short or missing...I'm still looking for the pin outs so we can narrow it down...but from the sounds of it just trace back the wires there has to be a short or one cut somewhere...Maybe even try switching those brown wires around again.
