Shocks compressor??
Put the strut in between two spare tires. and make sure that there is pressure so the spring doesn't hit you or anyone in the face. Its a ghetto fab method but it works for me.

guess i'll go rent one, but for 94 dc4, after taking it off, how about putting it back on?

Use cargo straps as already mentioned or a set of C-clamps or even vise grips. I know its really ghetto but sometimes we gotta get a little creative.
Well this was what I had in mind....
Have two very long bolts with threads on the tip and have it something like a battery tie down and then just tighten the bolts and that's what compresses the shocks...
red dots represents the nuts, black line represents some metal plate to help push down the shocks...

correct me if i'm wrong..just wat i was thinking. i'm probably gonna go and rent the thing to save myself some trouble.

The one you rent is pretty much the same thing, it just clamps on and squeezes the coil spring.
Don't be lazy, be safe and do it right.
I bought one for myself a long time ago when I had my old car because I've done so much suspension work on my car and my friend's cars.
