Default Shifting Problem ?

this past week it's been reallllll hard to shift into gears!!!

especially when i downshift to first like when i'm stopping (grinds!)

it's also harder to shift to first from neutral then from first to second...

i have NO clue how it happened.. maybe my clutch got bad all of a sudden OR my short shifter (b&m) messed it up somehow...?

if anyone has any info or anythng.. it'd help a lot.. thanks!

why are you downshifting into first gear. that alone is your problem. first gear is not your brake.

I agree. when you're shifting to first gear even at 10 MPH you're asking to syncros to bting the gear speed up to almost 3000 RPM's. shifting to 1st when moving even without a short shifter would wear out your synchro's real quick.

Next time be more gentle on your tranny, and learn to double declutch

ok.. no.. i don't mean i shift to first like at 10mph or at 3000 rpm's... i mean like when i'm STOPPING.. second to first

and i told my dad about it.. we took it around the block.. and noticed it seems fine...

but at higher RPMs is when it seemed to be hard to shift.. does anyone have info about that...? (like 6000 rpms then shifting)

it could be your clutch. sounds like the same problem that i had. was it extremely hard to get into gear?? if so it could be clutch.

you are still shifting into first when you stop!! thats not good on your clutch or your tranny. just use your brakes man they are alot cheaper than anything else you are wearing out.

Yeah don't ever put the car in first unless your car is not moving or you double de-clutch.

Whoever had my car last probably drove the same way and that's why sometimes I can't get the car in first even when stopped.

Put Honda MTF in and see if it gets any easier. When shifting above 4000 RPM's you've got to give the synchros a second to work until it'll slide into the next gear, you can't slam it or it'll grind.

I doubt it's a clutch problem, if the clutch is not disengaging fully then you should be able to tell. It'd be tough to shift all the time and it would idle a little different in gear.

This is the correct answer. Have your clutch adjusted. If that doesn't help
time for a new one. How many miles on this clutch already? BTW it's a real PITA.
And, don't worry about your synchros if you down shift into 1st at 10-15mph. The maximum allowable speed you can downshift to is around
30 mph according to the owners manual. And you know honda was erring on the safe side. So don't sweat the the 10mph dowshifts. I do it all
the time and my teg has 155xxx miles.
BTW Everyone, on Honda tranny's 1st gear IS synchronised and it IS in constant mesh. You must be thinking of "reverse". You don't ever need to wait to put it in 1st moving or NOT, and double clutching is a waste of time and energy on modern tranny's. But it is good exercise.

ok.. i noticed today.. i can shift at like lower rpm's.. BUT when i try to shift at like 4000 rpms (higher rpm's) it won't let me shift into the next gear.. i can only shift at low rpm's like 2-3k or it'll grind

i'm gonna change the transmission fluid and see if it's better.. mechanic looking at it next weekend... no time now cuz of school...

Sounds like synchros. If you're clutch is fairly new and installed right, then it's definitely your synchros. I'm goin through the same thing. So far it's only been in third gear with the rpms past 3000.

ok.. i have not been on HT for a long time now (changed my email and
accidently deleted the password they gave me.. so i can't log on!).. and i
get word from a TI member that i'm being accused as a scammer... AND that
you filed a police report on me????? wtf man. we never talked about this..
i have been busy studying and doing something with my life then to sit
around and check up on you everyday... i hardly get a chance to go home
because i stay at school to study.. so when i went home last weekend is when
i found out your check bounced! if i knew sooner i would have contacted you!
you don't see me on AIM b/c i limited it to only people on my buddy list!
i don't even have your sn anymore!

i was aware my check didn't go through this weekend... because i finally got
my mail and i was charged for it too, twice

it was a surprise to me b/c when i sent out the money i had enough money in
the bank to cover it.. then 2 weeks later i hear from the guy i bought the
bumper from that my check bounced! i call up the bank and try to find out
what happened and it turned out that my credit card was involved with credit
card fraud. I was only able to get $200 back and with that money i paid off
the guy for the bumper.. and on top of that i had to pay off $250 b/c my
credit was over and i HAD to pay that off b/c if i didn't my bank account
was going to close and i'd have an account of bad credit. and then this
weekend i find out your check bounced too.. damn

so now i'm broke.. the only source of income i have now is my monthly
allowance from my parents... since i'm currently busy with school. i can't
send you back the headlights b/c i sold off my other headlights already (to
get money to pay for the new ones.. BUT that ended up going towards
everything i owed) and need my car for daily use. if i had the money to pay
you i would have done so by now.. just the fact is that i don't. i wanted
to wait till i got the money to send out THEN just let you know it was on
the way... but then i hear my name is on HT as a scammer.. and that's just
not me.. if i were a scammer i wouldn't have sent out a check in the first
place.. i would have gave you a fake name, address, etc. everything should
have went smoothly.. it was just uncalled for things like the fraud that
kept me from paying you

you might not believe all of this, but it's the truth.. i just don't want a
bad rep around HT or TI and definitely don't want a case out of this when it
can easily be avoided... i got too much at stake to lose (my job, etc) so
please if you really did file a report, please clear it up.. because i will
send you your money.. damn.. i'm just mad that you didn't give me warning or
soemthing about the police! because i had NO idea of this whole
situation!!!!

the only thing i can do now tho is just save up my money then just let you
know when i have the money to send you, again. and believe me, all of my
talking online and etc was not an act.. i try to make my transactions go
smoothly and this is the only one (besides the bumper) that has gone bad.

i would have liked to settle this whole thing outside of HT and TI because
my reps getting messed up! and i understand you couldn't get a hold of me..
so no blame for you.. you didn't kno my email or that i limited my AIM.. and
definitely would have liked to settle this b4 you got the urge to call the
police.. that's just messed up man
