Default shifting

just was wondering when you guys usually shifted into 5th gear driving normally that is. bc i was driving with my pops today and he was yellin that i use 5th to much and im putting to much stress on the engine. but i mentioned saving gas and he didnt want to hear about that. so if you could just let me kno when you guys usually shift into 5th that would be great thanks

i've also heard you get your best fuel economy at full throtle. Shift at low RPMs and try to keep full throtle until you are at your desired speed. You will hurt the engine if you are at to low RPMs, but you should be able to tell. The car will not want to go and it will seem like its having a hard time. Like someone else said tho 8200 when it's time to have fun.

well i dont know about WOT but in the manual for a gsr the recommended shift point is at 3200rpm for the best fuel economy so i usually stick around there.

i sometimes put on 5th, when iam going 40-45mph. no hills.

your dad is somewhat right. say if you are going 40-45ish on 5th. and there is hill comming up, and you just press little hard on gas to speed up, that makes stress the engine.

*i dont know *****

yah, best shifting is anywhere in the 32-3800 range for best fuel economy...your dad is on something, as the only way he would be right is if your highways are extremely hilly and you didn't down shift accordingly.

i understand exactly what you guys are sayin but i just assumed that like it was putting to much strian on the engine if i was crusing in 4th at 3500 lets say. so i thought it would be better to be in a higher gear at a lower rpm

Sometimes during city driving IMO I think it is best to leave it in 4th at 3500 rather then shift to 5th just cuz the fact you can keep it in4th to slow down if a light is coming.

Save shifts and let the gsr let loose
